Thread: To all you Rifleman.

Just wanted to post a quick note, but first my background. Was Master TK, switched to Ch and recently picked up Rifleman (am moving fairly quickly through it). Now my comments:

You guys kick serious ass. The mentality you must have to solo is impressive, to me at least. You get beat down up close and mostly fight without pets (those of you that solo without them obviously). Besides perhaps TK you all have my utmost respect.

That's all.
Me.
It just had to be said.

You know....I never really thought much of it. You're definately right on the soloing and without pets for most of us, I never thought that was much ofa big deal.

Is it worse for other people?

I tried grouping with random strangers, but They would always get ~1500xp to my 300, so that didn't fly with me too long. I do group with people on occasion, and one of my most frequent partners is a rifleman(woman), which is perfect now that I can equal her damage output. Mobs go down faster, I get more xp per kill and it's generally more enjoyable. I want to create a Rebel squad of Riflemen on my server and call us the "GRA" - Galactic Rifle Association. Not sure if anyone has done that, but it would kick butt to get in a BIG group of Riflemen (and maybe swordsmen for tanks) and go hunt big things with factory built T21s...I'm stockpiling resources

Not thatit will ever get that far, but can you imagine 20 or so riflemen with T21s encircling an AT-ST and blasting away at its health pool from cover? Gives me goosebumps...

To an outsider it's impressive. Or to me and my friends at least. Everyone I know uses a pet. I use a pet. My best friends use pets. Everyone I see uses one. I came in here(your forum) just to browse, and the content, it seems to me is completely different. You're talking about murdering**edit** in cold blood, you use tactics to do it, and you discuss the most efficient way to kill. In comparison (no offense to these other classes), the other profession boards I read are mostly, "Where can I get a graulor Rancor?", "I'mpissed that I can't spamKD anymore, what moves do we have left?", or "Buy a flamer, it does more than a measely 3k damage." So yes, to me it's impressive.

Riflemen are impressive in a "wow, I can't believe you play with a class that weak" sort of way.

I'd rather be impressive in a "wow, I just hit that Tusken raider for 10000 damage" sort of way.

As long as that sort of thing is going around anyway. The point of any combat class is to contribute to the fight by doing damage or maybe some special attacks. In PvE, we contribute the least amount of damage and our special attacks primarily consist of attacking a pool that's going to still be half full when the creature dies.

The only reason I haven't switched classes is because I already have so much invested, and I have some vague hope that the devs can still bring balance to us.

Somehow I feel neater, and proud.

Thanks for the comments

This is a good profession, we have a few bugs we would like squashed, but the design is pretty much there. I know that after I started reading this forum and read the tactical suggestions I've begun to follow a few of those that I am capable of and have seen an improvement in my combative abilities, especially as the incapacitation effect is factored into some of them.

Most of the gripes around here I think are about either the unavailability of andthe nerfedness of the T21, the "elite" rifle. And the 2.5x melee multiplier.

I find that most riflemen here are rather intelligent, and make very good observations and suggestions. Since it is a bit tougher to play, you see less of the d00d speak players who want "uberness" in combat. Me, I was never much of a "twitch" game player, I prefer action with thinking, even if I'm not terribly good at it

Thanks for the /salute. Your post reminds me of why I wanted to be a rifleman in the first place, which can be best summed up with the following exchange from the movie Clear and Present Danger:

Sergeant Major: Soldier, how did you get so close to me?
Chavez: Sniper approached the instructor by being a sneaky b*st*rd, Sergeant Major!

This is a really good idea Social, and you would be able to count me in on PA like this. As a matter of fact if there is anything like this on Flurry or Scylla send me a message, either here or ingame, or if you just want to be a part of something like this send me a message(and yes I am insane because I have 2 rilfemen).

On Flurry I am Kel-jun.

On Scylla I cant remember my name right now (just started the character and I am at work at the moment) but will get it posted here when I get home.

socialconformer brings up an excellent point. riflemen need to group with eachother more. a big problem with our pvp abilities is that we are usually the only rifleman of the bunch. thats why all the other ham pools go down so much faster. a group of riflemen could obliterate anyone's mind pool way before any other pool goes down, especially since, if you haven't noticed, most player's mind pools are at their minimum. rifleman pa's def need to be formed in every server.
