Thread: How much soloing do you do as a Rifleman?
I was thinking about this last night...and my honest answer is 95% of my exp to master rifleman was solo. I don't include my droid i group with and leave at the city, I mean in actuall groups with other players. Maybe other folks did it much of the same way, but the exp per hour was never as good in a group.
Just wondering, if other folks made master or alot of thier rifle expdoing more grouping than solo.
The trick is to do your Soloing in SMALL groups. Allow me to make a suggestion.
Get together a group of you and a few low-level players. Take them out to hunt things that would normally be BEYOND your ability to fight. Especially if your newbie partners are Brawlers and/or the targets are ranged attackers. It also helps to at least have Novice Medic and some Stim-Bs handy.
They will provide enough distraction that you should be able to kill the MOBs and get the lion's share of the XP.
However, even if they only do a fraction of the damage, they will be scoring hundreds of XP per kill, which is far better than they would do on their own. Everyone wins.
If we're not including pets ( I have a Greater Desert Womp Rat that acts as my tank ) I'd say 95% of all good XP ( by good, any amount of XP from a single kill over 1500 ).
Funny thing....now that I'm halfway up to master ( 3/1/3/2 ) I find less and less incentive to set up camp and pull my GDWR pet out. I can solo a red con like a Mountain Squill on Tatooine ( for 3.5k per kill )using just a combo of rifle specials...Mindshots1+2, headshot3, Flurry+suppression fire, with an occasional dose of burst run thrown in just to add flavor. This of course burns out my mind, but that's another story. Heh, I think I'm finally starting to get the first taste that so called "hidden" power riflemen obtain at master....interesting.
The only time I group is when I want to be social and have fun with fellow hunters; the XP I get from those group hunts is pitiful compared to my solo kills.
I did mostly group fighting until I was 4,0,0,2 in the tree. At that point, I got sick of hearing my groupmates talk about the "uber xp" they got while I got a lousy 1/10 to 1/3 as they did. To explain, they would get 4k each and I'd get as low as a lousy 100.
After that, I went out and solo'ed Torturs until I hit master. Now with supression fire gone solo'ing is a lot harder.
I dont fight for xp any more, but I need to fight alot when exploring... and I've found that I've had to resort to using a pet (Master CH) because that's the only way to keep things off my back - or I get everyone's favorite one-hit incap/slain combo from the mob.

95% solo.
Like the last guy, I started out grouping a lot but quit when I got sick of hearing "omg I got 4000 carbine xp" when I got 1000 rifle XP with the best DPS rifle available.
I feel sorry for anyone trying to level now. 90% of my solo XP came from things that ran too slow to catch me. The only other way to reliably kill stuff as a rifleman is to use a sword.
I haven't gained a skill box in 2 weeks (stuck at 4424) because grouping with a doctor and using my sword to kill is hella more fun than solo kiting snorbals. And you can't even do that anymore, apparently.
When I pictured a rifleman, I pictured a guy who took cover and blasted things from underneath a bush. I didn't picture a guy wearing a pink dress, hiking his skirts with one hand and firing behind him with the other as he flees in terror from a vicious herbivore.
If I had to put a number down, I'd say 50k of my total rifleman exp was from groups, the rest of it was solo. Part of the reason for this was because most of my PA was crafting at the time, the other was becauseriflemen just suck in groups early on and by the timeI was up to standardI hadlearnt to solo well.
Has anyone else found that in large groups, they tend go use OverChargeShot1 a lot? It's the only way that we can compete in the DPS category without totally blowing our mind. Kinda funny that a Marksman ranged support skill is far more useful than our specialized shots.
On Yavin 4, Dantooine and Lok, I regularly get over 3000 XP per kill when spamming OverChargeShot1.
