Thread: Question Regarding Block

I am currently a TKM slowly working my way up the rilfeman tree. First of all, I must say that I am having a lot of fun; shooting things at range while prone is a huge change from smacking things with my fists at 5m.

My question is regarding the Block defenses gained in the Pikeman tree. I am planning to move into Pikeman 0-0-4-0 to pick upBlock and other defensive modifiers after I master Rifleman, and I am wondering if anyone has any experiance with this template (Rifleman + Pikeman 0-0-4-0)?

Thank you, and I apologize for creating yet another template question.

Well havent stacked Block but I am a former carbineer/swordsman who stacked counterattack and the results were amazing. Equip sword hit COB equip carbine and prepare for 20seconds of uberness Block, I imagine would be the same. I am a Rifleman now and im almost at novice Pike but i am hesitating with it....there are rumors that defense mods will not stack across professions come next publish. However this is a rumor, no one on these boards knows for sure what is going to happen with these mods. :-(

Open your combat log... You should be seeing "Counterattack" pretty frequently....this is block mislabled in your log, but it is your Block mod working......if a PC shoots at you, it is displayed as Block in his combat log...weird but its working.

note: you wont see a -block- floatie over your head when the mod is triggered...like with mobs. You need to check your combat logs.

Thanks

Yes this is right block shows up as counterattack BUT (big but here and not from sitting all day) you will still lose the health from the hit. Yes you heard me right you still lose the health, I know this for a fact because I have been incapped on a "block", so block is fubared and there is no talk of it being repaired.

I always thought a successful block meant that only half the damage from the hit was received.

Thats how it seems to work on creatures that block my attacks, anyway.

Ya, block just lowers the amount of damage you take. If you think about it you can't really block an attack completely. if it hits you you're gonna take damage, but you can lower the amount of damage that you actually take.

Well... in that case, maybe I don't want to raise my block modifier. Seriously, who would want a greater chance of "lowering the amount of damage" you take, when you can focus on mods that avoid damage all together?

I'll probablyget Pikeman 0-0-4-0anyway, just to be somewhat unique. It's just a shame that I may end up being incapped in a unique fashion...

That and pistols suck and there's no way I'm going to grab the FOTM fencer / pistoleer template. I don't care how gimped I am, I will not be a cookie cutter McB*tch!

I might have hallucinated this but... I'm sure I read a post around xmas time on the discussion board about abilities from one profession being changed to not stack with abilities from another - i.e if you are using a rifle you will get your rifle block abililty, if you are using a pike you will get your pike block ability, but you will not get both at the same time.

This change was brought about after CSRs banned a player for "exploiting" because he had picked a template which, when the abilities stacked, made him basically untouchable. Invisible CSRs watched him take down 4 mobs without taking a hit, assumed he was using an exploit and banned him. Friends of the banned player then set up a character with the same template and demonstrated to the CSRs that no exploit was involved, simply the stacking of abilities across professions.

I was surprised that I didn't see more about this change, which makes me wonder if the change was actually implemented, but I'm 100% sure I read a post about it discussing the shock people would get when they suddenly found they were no longer untouchable. If anyone can find something that proves or disproves this I'd love to see it.

it was silverlobo and he as talking about it in the thread defence stacking. Some claim that deffences are still stacking others think that there is a bug with rifleman and we are harder to hit im melee when the opposit was the intention last patch. what i do know is that it is showing that the defences are stacking but not sure if they acually are or not (at the moment i suspect that at least TKM and Rifle are still stacking). if someone wants to run some tests on this I'm Cukiji on kedemore

No, remember in the last patch they said riflemen were doing to be easier to hit with rifle out by taking a hit to melee defense?

Well it appears they did the oposite. Your harder to hit with rifle out. Thats the problem, I thnk they reversed the effect.

When block takes affect, the damage that comes through is not passed onto armor, so in certain situations you could take more damage via block than if it was a clean hit.
