Ok, I just mastered rifleman (Holo/game hunting with a few buddies) and I was messing with Conceal shot.

I notice I have a "+100 rifle Concealment chance" so that should mean I can conceal shot without being detected right?

Sure does not seem this way, 2-3 shots and their chasing me.. Anything from Krayts, Squills, Rancors, Geonosian's.. am I doing something wrong?

"Concealment chance" has nothing to do with "conceal shot"

Concealment Chance- a Modifyer on how well you can pull a single MOB from a Pack

Conceal Shot- The shot were you can damage a MOB and go undetected

I never trust conceal shotbeyond 2 shots. I usually peace out after max of two and then begin again. Never get agroed unless I miss (to make sure I always hitI'm always at best distance, mask scent'd for creatures, and AIMing). May take a little bit longer but I'm always certain that there is absolutely no risk.

My usually method of operation against creatures is: MASK SCENT, make two head shots against every available target making sure to peace after each grouping of two headshots (mask scent allows two shots on any creature without agro, I take two shots at the creature, peace, two shots at the next, peace, two shots...), afer my mask scent shots are done, start concealing at optimal range while prone and aiming, if I get agroed then I pull out my pistol or carbine and /WARNING SHOT (Marksmen Ranged Weapons Support III)the buggers in turn into running (peace aftereach successfull Warning Shot,it will make sure you get the maximum run out of the creature,if you start firing again the creature will most likely turn back after a short run), as soon as they are at distance switch back to rifle and continue to headshot till they start running back. Warning Shot is a great crowd control for creatures, I've had instances of three creatures agroed on me and I've just cycled throughWarning Shot on each one and they never gotten into melee range... it feels like you playing ping-pong with three furry balls. Eventually I've found that after enough Warning Shots they stop running at you and start walking... easy targets.

Well, I personally live and die (and more often then not the first one) by concealed shot. As of now, I am a 3/1/2/2 Rifleman and Master Ranger, I hunt Rancor on a nightly bases using conceal shot and rarely ever get agro through an entire fight. I just keep at a safe distance (50-55m) and try and keep mask scent up (but it fails or expires on ocassion). Just make sure you are spamming conceal shot because if a regular attack gets off, get ready for some agro. Well, best of luck to you.

If you never want to miss and don't mind waiting longer to kill stuff you can always make a macro somthin like this:

Macro pleasepleasenevermissconcealshotagain...

/aim

/pause .5

/concealshot

/pasue .5

/macro pleasepleasenevermissconcealshotagain...

it will take a lot longer tho- waiting cuz the /aim takes up a combat round. if you were trying to kill somthing real tough its a pretty safe way to do it.

keep in mind you need to be in 64m range to fire. well rancors, krayts, and other beasts will begin stalking you farther out than 64m. you may not even be aware you are being stalked unless you have ranger skills.

a stalking creature or npc can make it seem as if they detected through your concealshot, when in reality what is happening is the creature just aggroed on you normally, irregardless of you shooting it.

stay at 64m... (or more) and keep mask scent on. or if it's your cup of tea, grab novice ranger and observe how mob stalking/concealshot interact.

Wow - I never knew that...

So can someone explain more about the conceal chance then? This would be exceptionaly useful in some group PvE... how would I use this to draw say 1 nightsister or 1 anything out of a pack without the rest following me?

Also ive heard take cover increases concealment chance... how does this work? Does take cover & conceal shot stack? and is it really neccesary to /peace every 2 shots - does it really affect the chance of detection.

This might be a skill I actualy start using, especially now I basicly refuse to PvP

Concealment chance: Different mobs have different behavior patterns. When you /examine a MOB you can see if they are pack, herd, aggressive, stalker etc. If you are attacking a MOB that is aggressive or packing, expect it's friends to attack when it is attacked due to it's "pack" disposition. If you have higher concealment chance, you have higher odds of being able to begin attacking 1 of these types of mobs without drawing its friends into the battle.

Pulling: Pulling is a technique for pulling 1 aggressive/packing mob away from a group without drawing aggro from others nearby. There are entire FAQ's on how to do this, but the easiest for a riflemen is as follows. Get to your ideal range, go prone (/takecover does not help - explain that in a minute) and hit a mindshot on the mob you wish to pull. Immediately peace. Back up to about 90 meters and wait for the bleed to tick. As soon as the bleed ticks you will be engaged with the mob. All others will remain in place.

/takecover: Take cover adds toa riflemen'sranged defenses. You can take cover from prone and ranged enemies will have a harder time hitting you. This comes in handy if you are running faction missions, attacking Nym's guards, marauders, or other gun-wielding NPC's. It has no other benefits and is rarely used by most riflemen - many of us wish for this to give us more of a benefit.

Conceal shot: Conceal shot works endlessly as long as you never draw a random bleed and never miss more than 1 time in a row. It is beneficial, but not necessary to use /aim before each concealshot in order to increase your chances of hitting and not missing. The time it takes to aim before each conceal shot on a large mob will double the time it takes to kill the mob - not worth it to most. Example: takes 45 minutes to kill a giant canyon krayt dragon with conceal shot without aiming and 1 1/2 hours with aiming. It is faster to keep a speeder close by and a pet on guard than to aim between each shot.

PVP: Prone, conceal, and take coverare not viable inPVP. Unfortunately riflemen are heavy machine gunners in this game and not snipers. If you are laying on the ground, trying to be sneaky in any way, you're dead. Riflemen's place in pvp is in the back, using flushing to reduce large #'s of enemies defenses as fast as possible and then draining their minds with headshots.

Thanks for that - I've mastered rifleman before now, but I wasnt involved in PvE enough to bother learning about the concealment tree that much. Now with PvP royally messed up my main reasons for mastering a combat profession is PvE so things are slightly different

Maybe the reason you cheapos are getting killed is the random bleeds that sometimes get applied when attacking. Watch the mob's status window and I'll bet that when it finally comes over to knock ya silly butt senseless, it's got a 1 damage bleed tic on it.

So sick of riflemen at this point....

Personally the biggest difference in Conceal shot working is being Prone first (combined with Mask Scent I never get spotted) and distance (60-64 meters is idea). I would keep those things in mind when concealing.

I conceal shot a kimogila to death. 32k HAM. I just used mask scent at about 60-62m, and peaced and reapplied it when it faded off. Only took some 500 conceal shots i think.. each one was only doing 200-500 damage about, and heaven forbid i hit the same HAM bar three times in a row haha. But conceal shot seemed to work for me =)
