The reason I ask this is because is because when I'm hunting with a group, I'm always the one who gets attacked. My understanding of the CU is that all combat professions have a specific role. TK's and Pikemen tank, Pistoleer's and Carbineers inflict state attacks, and swordsmen and Riflemen deal heavy damage. Now as I understand it, my role as a riflemen is to stay about 50m to 60m away laying on the damage while the others tank and root. The thing is that since I almost always deal more damage than anyone else, (which I'm supposed to), the krayt, kimo or whatever ignores all of the tank professions and goes straight for me! If this is the way group hunting is supposed to be then we need way more defenses. I don't even see the point of having a Tank in the group if I'm going to be the tank anyway. By the way, it only takes 2 or 3 hits from an ancient krayt to put you in the cloner.

Not too mention many dont know how to play a tank, it takes more then just press your attack buttons. Many dont even think about the fact that they have /taunt, and if your in a group hunting larger things like krayts, kimos and the likes and you have good healers, it might be advisable to try and let the tank build up abit of hate with the mob before everyone starts dealing their heaviest damage.
At least this is my experience from other MMO's and since we recently had the CU and the whole grouping thing is new to many it wouldnt surprise if they just didnt know how to tank.

i've noticed this as well...from the other end of the spectrum. as a "tank" profession (master teras kasi, working on master pikeman), i find my duty relegated to the rifleman, who usually end up getting incapped pretty quickly. on top of this the all important taunt skill seems to have many problems with it, range, recharge time, and general affectiveness. if i attack a mob, and then taunt it to come to me the taunt only works for maybe a few seconds before it moves on to the higher damage dealing riflemen, while the timer doesnt allow for addecute reuse. i really hope they fix this soon, for all our sakes.

I didnt mean to trample tanks that hold agro or anything. I was recently on a few months breaks from swg when I played a damage dealer in anarchy online, when I got to the levels past 100 I quickly learned how to moderate my damage if I got to much agro.
So its as much our job as it is yours I suppose, if you get to much agro you might consider stepping abit down on the specials.
Of course swg is still in need of alot of balance as you say, so we will just have to wait and see I guess..

If you think about it, to become good at PvE is just like getting good at PvP.. You need to group with the same people, use tactics and learn from eachother over a period of time. Adapting to tanks, like the previous poster said, try dealing a little less damage/

Try hanging back from your group and going prone. Use Sniper shot every third or fourth shot alternating it with marksman specials, the warm-up period is good for letting others get aggro momentarily as are the lesser powered shots in the cooldown period. If something still breaks toward you use your snare and apply other states as you get to your feet and start kiting it back in a loop toward the rest of your group.

If you really want to Tank, have at it.

I have tried using the tactics you suggested and occasionaly they work although not always. The point really is if I have to regulate my damage so as not to do more damage than the TK's, then why not become a TK? Or better yet, dont use tanks at all and form your group with only riflemen, then atleast while running in circles using Kneecap shot someone is laying out some heavy damage. I don't think this is how grp fighting was meant to be.
