So basicly Headshot 2 is the only special worth using right now ah?

Mostly. During my grind I made the mistake of going all the way up the sniping tree before getting Flushingshot2. GET FLUSHINGSHOT2, holy crap it makes grinding 500% easier.

Rifleman is probably the ultimate "Just Have Faith" profession. Novice Riflemen are perhaps the most helpless out of the Elite professions. But if you think it's bad now, imagine the following scenario:

Concealshot causes all of the other MOBs in the group to immediately aggro you and warp (teleport) right next to your toon while nailing you for 6.25X damage multiplier. In fact, you could be incapped by Durnis and Corellian Butterflies when you're a Novice Rifleman. That's the way it used to be.

The only advice I can give you is this: Go with groups and use Over Charge Shot 1 liberally until you get Conceal Shot. Then use the /aim /concealshot combination to take down MOBs that would normally have you for breakfast. Max out your rifle aiming skill boxes as fast as possible. Then go straight for Flushing Shot 2. Then grind until you're a master.

Once you hit all the MOBs around a lair for over 5000 points of damage every second, you'll be glad that you stuck it out.

Umm... if you at all value your precious gun you won't use overcharge shot all the way up the tree like this guy suggests. Read about the shot, it tears up the condition on your gun. If you used overcharge shot with your new T21 you would have to repair it probably twice before you even got up two levels. Especially if you have it powered up at all times ( which also increases wear and tear on your guns condition )

I have used nothing but Headshot since I got it. I approach the lair, lay down at approximately 50 - 55 meters. And at only 1-0-2-1 Rifleman I get about 4 shots off with my DXR-6b Rifle before the creature even sees me. Hunting Savage Quenkers ( which have a ranged attack so you dont havea pesky melee guy stuck on you ) I usually kill them withing 4 - 6 shots, so it works out pretty well. Plus Headshot targets only one pool unlike overcharge shot, therefore making it a more efficient use of your time and your guns condition.

Just because I am not high up on rifleman right now doesn't mean I dont know what I am talking about, I was a master rifleman long ago, back when it was actually a difficult grind.

I just hit novice rifleman, my first time with the profession. So far I have the following specials

Overcharge Shot - Novice Marksman

Headshot 2 - Rifles III

Mindshot - Rifles IV

Strafe Shot 1 - Novice Rifleman

I also bought a few new rifles. Got a sweet DXR-6b from a guild mate, cant use it yet but it's nice. Also got a nice T21. The T21 has the following stats (including a 33/16 Speed/Mind Cost powerup)

AP: Heavy

Speed: 4.7

Type: Energy

Min Damage: 131

Max Damage: 362

Costs: 33/39/60

Nice rifle IMHO. But the farthur I get up towards rifleman and even Novice, the specials seem totally backwords for damage. For example

Overcharge Shot seems to do 1000-2000dmg constistantly

Headhshot 2 does similar 500-1800 or so

Mindshot rarely does over 700, usually in the 500 range

Strafe Shot 1 RARELY does over 400! Only once did I get even close to the low marksman specials, 800 dmg.

So I'm thinking.. **edit** is going on with rifle specials? Why is the damage so terrible with a Novice Rifleman special and so great with the NOVICE MARKSMAN special?!?!?!

Any ideas? Lol, it just seams totally backwords to me. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some side effect to the higher end specials I don't realize?

Thanks in advance

Sorry for the double post. First time I posted I got a 'you need to sign in' when I was already signed in. Backed up and did it again.. and was taken to another thread entirely.

Novice Marksman Special: overchargeshot1 = big dmage + DECAY to weapon (not good)

Headshot, pool target

mindshot: wounds to focus/willpower, and bleeding (useless)

strafeshot: raises posture and clears cover (useless)

No, that would be Ranger. Sorry for missing that one before . Rifleman would qualify for next in line perhaps

Strongly Agree with the poster who said don't use OverCharge Shot too much. Unless you can afford a new T21 fairly often.

A friend of mine decided he wanted to grind Rifleman. After a few days of hunting he tracked me down and asked me to repair his precious T21. He traded it to me and I looked at it... Condition = 0. I shook my head and asked him "Have you been using Overcharge Shot?". His reply: "Why, yes.. thats all I ever use." When I broke the news to him, I thought he was gonna cry, so I took him to my house and gave him one of my old ones that was better than the one he had used up. He asked me "How much you want for it?" and I said "Its free as long as you promise me that no Overcharge Shot will ever issue forth from it's barrel!".

yeah, my advice is to buy laser rifles, and keep the ones sliced for speed. use speed powerups, and kill with headshot2 (headshot3 or conceal shot when you get it).

lasers are cheaper, so you don't care as much about decay. since you take a bunch of shots to kill anything anyway, average damage is all you care about, and a good laser is comparable with a T21 in that category. Plus, it will be much faster, which equals greater DPS.

If you're in a group hunting high-level MOBs and you use OverChargeShot, you'll get through the Novice Rifleman grind a lot faster than any other method. Plus, with the mission payouts from group hunting, you should be able to affordseveral new laser rifles fairly quickly. It's not likea good laser costs 150,000 credits. A decent laser will run about 10,000 creds--even less if you're getting your rifles from a fellow guildie. No newbie rifleman is going to be using a top-of-the-line 100,000 credit damage-sliced T-21 to grind out Novice Rifleman.

In the end, you have to think what's more important: Saving a 10,000 cred rifle for as long as you can or grinding through tosome useful skills inless than90 minutes? Later, when you can solo 12-15K missions in a matter of minutes, are you going to be patting yourself on the back for saving the condition of a disposable 10,000 credit rifle? I don't think so.

why overcharge shot?

1. Overcharge is a 2x damage mod, as far as I know (I never used it). Headshot 2 is 2.5x

2. More importantly, Overcharge is a random HAM shot-- clearly inferior to a targetted ham shot like headshot2, unless you can take your target out in 1-2 shots.

If he's hunting high-level MOBs with a group, he's definitely not going to be getting the kill. What matters at that point is being able to constantly output damage. Overcharge Shot1 will cause less mind loss than Headshot 2. So, with some decent Stims, he can stay in the fight for a longer period of time.

Ideally, he'd be buffed and be drinking brandy. If his mind stats are buffed to +830 for 45 minutes, then it doesn't matter if he uses Headshot 2. However, since OC1 doesn't draw from the mind pool as much as HS2 does, it's a more sustainable attack.
