Thread: Which Rifle is better?
mercs on lok as target ...
52 - 500 max laser rifle... 130 - 2500 flurry shot 2
130 - 150 max t21... 1100 -2000 flurry shot 2
so t21 dose more consitent damage through out your firing time.
where as
laser rifle will hit hardder but will give you a slew of mediocre hits.
your question will be can you handle the mind costs of a t21 vs a laser ? if not then use the laser.
For now the laser is the better one, BUT there are 2 things that are happening that wil change this:
Damage mitigration: This currently on TC right now. Itdrops the range between the min and max of a weapon. Master elites would have the range drop 60% (Novice 20%, somewhere between 40%). So take the 2 examples that Nitra gave:
- Laser rifle: 52-500, against a Mit 3 player: 52-231
- T-21 130-350, against a Mit 3 player: 130-218
This is just a proposed change, it might not make it to live. And if it does, it might be changed.
AP CHANGING: AP is currently bugged on LIVE. Orginally higher AP added and extra 25% damage per level higher than the AR of the target. This was changed back when weapons with AP stopped doing extra damage to vuln targets.(Month ago? Longer?)That is not a bug, what is bugged is higher AP still does extra damage. This should not be occuring. It should be lowering the resistanceof the target, not doing extra damage. THis is the formula that should be used: Actual resistance = Stated Armor resistance / ((AP - AR) * 2)
Here is what a T-21 should be doing against a 80% composite helmet. If you shoot it with a 500 point headshot.
80% / ((3-1) *2) = 80/4 = 20%. So the head shot should be for 400 damage. NO extra damage for the higher AP.
The reason it has not been fixed is probably because everyone thought no extra damage when attacking a vuln armor was the bug, not the extra damage still working on higher AP shots. (Makes me wonder if ANY devs play much since everyone has been thinking the extra AP damage is the Standard. And also wonder what they thought when people keep /bugging the dx2 and other weapons not doing extra damage to vuln targets)

Okay here's my deal. I have a Laser rifle that hits for a max of 508 sliced. I just went and bought a T21 unsliced that hits for a max of 350. I was told the T21 will do more damage because it is armor piercing...is this true? Will I only notice the difference when I killin' NPCs and PCs? I tried it last night and I didnt notice much of a difference. I'm on the shadowfire server and this T21 is the best one that has been created so far.
Maybe this will help: The T21 has "heavy" Armor Piercing (AP = 3). The Laser has "medium" Armor Piercing (AP = 2). That means that the T21 actually has a 25% improvement over the Laser when used in a situation where AP makes a difference. So the bottom line is a 350 T21 is SIMILAR to a 437 Laser. Now there are other things to consider:
-- The MIN damage of the T21 is much higher so you won't get many crappy shots like you could from the laser.
-- The HAM damage is higher with the T21 so you can't fire as many specials before your mind goes.
Now, notice I said "when used in a situation where AP makes a difference". There have been numerous discussions and notes on this board about how AP actually works in the game and how it is SUPPOSED to work. I am totally confused at this point, so I'll leave that discussion to someone else.
My advice is to get it sliced and hope for a good damage slice. Unfortunately for me, I tend to see speed slices about 75% of the time. So good luck in that endeavor. However, if you should get an average damage slice (say 25%), then you have a 437 T21 making it equivalent to a 546 Laser.
it currently hits for around 500 average on autofire. this is above the 388 max so i would assume AP does play a role.
Dude, Rifleman is something it is not really worth dabbling in, especially without the rifle abilities line which gives you rifle speed increases. There is a big difference between a novice and a master, even when you are filling the 4th blocks. I don't want to put you off such a great profession but I do have to be honest.
BTW I agree with the previous answer that the T21 and Disrupter both have their uses against different targets. Generally I do an /examine first to check out resists and use the most appropriate gun based on that (taking into consideration the AP v's AR as well).
