Thread: your new favorite rifle: the jawa ion

a lot of you have overlooked this silly-sounding gem of a rifle. here's a shortexplanation of why it is rokken like dokken (ok, it's a LOT better than dokken, actually).

jawa ion rifle does DT_stun. this is NOT 'stun', the status effect... it is a damage type (also found on the stun baton and tangle pistol), much as DX2/scatters are DT_acid, and FWG5's are DT_heat. /examine a creature and you will see (assuming you have adequate 'creature knowledge' skill): armor, special protection, effectiveness, and vulnerability.

armor is a base protection to damage... special protection AND effectiveness percentages stack on this (the only difference in these stats is in experimentation on crafted armor). vulnerabilities NEGATE armor. example: giant dune kimogilas have medium armor, plus resists (sp. protect and effect. will both be grouped together here as 'resists')... and a vulnerability to stun. startusing your /examine, and you'll find a LOT of things with a GAPING vulnerability to stun.

the jawa ion ALSO has AP1. this means that it automatically ignores light armor, and against unarmored (or vulnerable) targets, it does an additional 25% dmg.

the jawa ion rifle has a decent damage potential, and a good fire rate. it also has a very modest mind cost for specials. I won't bother telling you what stats to look for, because your particular galaxy will produce vastly different resources, and therefore weapons, than the ones I am familiar with. by now, you should know at LEAST one good weaponsmith well enough to trust their product.

but wait! there's more. perhaps you're afraid of AOE's while hunting because it's not fun to hit the lair and become the new favorite target of <insert mobname here>. try this little test: walk up to a lair. spam /headshot on it with ANY rifle. WOW! no damage. now, there is no AOE headshot, so that won't help you much... but equip a jawa ion rifle, and use ANY shot on the lair. WOW again. DT_stun does ZERO damage to lairs, and therefore will not pull defense aggro. need dath insect meat for a BioE who is paying 30/unit? throw ANY tank (pet, faction pet, melee player with a heart of gold and, er, something else of brass) STRAIGHT at the lair. target the lair. wait a second for the lair attacker to pull aggro, and group up the mobs you want to kill... and let loose, still targetting the lair, with your jawa on full AOE.

if for some reason this hasn't atleast made you curious enough to try the jawa ion... I don't know what else I can say to convince you. this is a very overlooked gun that isn't perfect for EVERYTHING, but which can do some things that no other gun (rifle/carbine/pistol/special heavy) can touch.

oh, one last note: for PvP'rs, remember that composite armor has ZERO resistance to DT_stun.

While I completely agree that the ion is a great weapon - I need to clarify something. The way vulnerability works in this game is that it considers the target to be AP0 to any DT that it's vulnerable to. Therefore you don't get the AP bonus to any damage that hits a vulnerability (same effect as hiting an unarmoured player - overhead damage equals the damage in the combat chat window).

On the other hand - if the target is armoured and has low resists to a DT, then the AP bonus does apply and you do additional damage over and above what shows in the combat spam.

Therefore - if you see something that has Light arnour - vulnerable to stun, and 5% to energy - bust out the laser or T21. You'll do more damage due to the AP effect, overcoming the 5% easily.

You know a good way to keep the gun underground is to not talk about it so much, this is like the 3rd thread on it in the past few days. Pretty soon others are gonna get wise and have a few stun layered pieces just in case.

I used Jawa Ion's when they were underground...when I looted one off a jawa and it was better then my CDEF that is

lol i remember when I looted my first ion rifle. It was better than my CDEF also.

How many Tissues does an ion rifle take? Ive been saving +30 tisses for a T21. MB I'll just bet a couple of ion rifles and see what happens.

I also use a jawa rifle but mine is not that good.

Can someone give me some stats on their jawa rifles, I have a friend who is a weaponsmith and he said he would make me a good jawa rifle but I would like to tell him what to aim for when making it.

tnx

and sg82 is a pretty good rifle too, it does cold damage. With a damage slice and a 32%speed 15%dmg pwr up you can shoot longer because of its low ham costs. This is the gun I used to lvl up rifles 4 in the marksman tree, I did it in about a half hour. I kept using overchargeshot1, since they are not expensive rifles, I was hitting for avg a 700 and I was only at rifles 3. This is what got me into rifleman and I will naver forget it.

Yeah, also good is the SG82 for the simple fact that it does COLD DAMAGE. There are lotsa mobs with low cold defense outthere and that is the 1 type of damage players think least about.

my jawa was 110-220 5.1 or 5.4 speed (i think), and about 45 ham (give or take a few points on the ham and speed).

after a decent slice, -think i only got about 23% dmg, and putting a 33% max dmg/16% mind powerup on it, my jawa is 357 max dmg, 37 ham. (at master, who cares about hte speed. get a better slice and it's awesome.

i luv it

somewhat related:

I will be making a thread soon, regarding Master Rifle/Master Marskman against various other professions at different ranges. so far i've only done some experimenting with a Master Pistoleer who was wearing a full suit of composite, and then later, just clothed.

When wearing composite, i beat him every time with the jawa, even when starting at 19m. (i was wearing a suit of marauder armor, with ubese boots. only 400 health/action. max'd mind stats.) he was using a 350(give or take)max dmg FWG5.

the Composite + jawa rifle was destroying him, as his specials cost more, and my dmg went through completely unchecked.

when he took off his armor and we dueled at 20m again, he beat me everytime. (i would get off 2-3 shots before incapped - but I only have 400 health/action. i'mdoc, butwasn't using buffs). he was typically about 1 shot away from being incapped by me, very low health/action.

we didn't have time to try at different ranges, or with different rifles. I suspect i could probably take him at 20m with the T21. it would be a very close duel, i think. nevermind if i was buffed (as i will be all the time PvP), or had my composite armor pieces on.

so um..

the jawa rules composite.
