Thread: Suprise Shot
Almost to my next skill box, and I am looking at Suprise shot, but I have no idea what it does. The only description I am able to find is "from cover, sneak attack". Rather vague, IMHO.
Could someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks. ![]()
Suprise shot is broke.. or the worst special ever... I think it has a 3 times dmg bonusbuta SLOW recoil . This hits a random pool and has no special effects. HS3 is also 3 timesdmg bonusbut fires faster and also doesnt require cover...
It SHOULD be 5 times dmg bonus like ss2 but to a single target...
I've heard it's a vital shotthe riflemen has and I've also heard it's broke...
So which one is it? Useful or Broke?
I've tried it about 10 times when I first gained it, never worked. It takes me an average of 3 times to take cover, so I never use it. Worthless just like my time.
Surpise shot works (atleast it gives higher damage:] ).
This is how it works for me. Must be in conceal. From there, just hit the **edit** key and it seems to use a 3x multiplier and hits random bar. It takes action to go into cover (think for me is about 125 points worth) and at base level you will fail about 2/3 times, so, have to do it more then once (till it sticks). Seems to have a longer delay then other shots.
Is it useful? Well, for me normally not. Verses mobs, i almost always solo and hunt red cons, so, I use bleeds a hella lot more. Verses players, well, taking cover will kill ya:]
Where it is useful is if you have a group where you need to do damage to get exp (realtive to them) and where it is more helpful to get some random damage to that health bar (for some reason with random bar attacks and normal shot i seem to hit health most, action next, and mind rarely). It takes less mind to use surpise shot then to use other shots that hit random bars.
BTW, you can spam this out of cover, but, you do only normal damage.
So this shot is basically like headshot 3 but hits random pools and must be performed in cover?
Sounds pointless to me...
I am 2/0/0/1 in riflemen...
What should I get next??
I agree it has limited uses, but, if you are in a group and the group is firing on health/action, then this will help you kill the creature with them instead of working against them as well as save you some mind.
Why is it called surprise shot anyway??
I thought it might be a more powerful version of conceal shot.

Surpriseshot is supposed to only work from Cover, and it is has the same delay modifier and HAM costs as Concealshot, butit does about .5x more damage. Therefore, it would be easy to think of it as a more damaging Concealshot, but, as you noted,it does not seem to prevent targets from aggroing on you.
Now, bear in mind that Surpriseshot is supposed to only work from Cover. For a while way back, it did not even work if you were under cover. But when they fixed it, so it would at least work, they did something else wrong in that they made it so that cover does not appear to be necessary.
Surpriseshot does 3.x damage, which is the same damage as Headshot3, but it does random pool rather than targeted damage like Headshot. Also, it has far less HAM costs than Headshot3, in fact, it uses the same HAM as Headshot2. That makes it the highest single target random pool shot we have, but is less expensive than Headshot3. But, like Concealshot, it has a 3.0x delay modifier. This makes it and Concealshot the slowests shots outside of Strafeshot2 (which has a 3.5x delay mod). Since Flushingshot2 does more damage and is AE and is faster, my guess would be that almost no one uses this shot much.

/agree
When I first got it I tried it once hoping it would prevail where conceal shot had failed. I haven't used it since...![]()
