Thread: Flamethrower vs. Rifle
Oh, and I hate the argument,"commandos are easy. Just stay at 60 range, keep moving, and blind them and you will own them." Hmm, if I keep moving I miss as much as a commando. He does more damage then me. He does 2.5x on top of his greater damage. Oh ya, he does not stand nicely at 60 meters away for me. Now, if he did, or if I had a shot to make him, then I would buy the "commandos are easy to beat" argument.
Just because you are a better player then someone, does not mean there is balance. I try to remember that they have tactics just like us. So, the argument on balance is not who has better tactics, but, all else being equal, is there balance?
Given the numbers of commandos out there, and the fact I think people are generally rational (I said generally), it seems safe to say commandos whoop other classes. If people just like the title or something, before they where buffed we would have seen a ton of them.
I don't know how many people know this, but Flamethrowers (at least the ones I have) have a better accuracy modifier at 64m than Laser Rifles.
If you doubt me than these pictures below show what I'm saying:

Am I the only one who thinks this is totally wrong and against the idea of a close-range weapon like the Flamethrower? (I'm talking game balance, not real life). A Commando at 64m with a Flamer has a better chance to hit me than I do with my Laser Rifle. Sure only 4m later I have +42m, but I always go for max range whenever I'm going to engage someone.
The strange thing is a Heavy Acid Rifle or at least the one I have has a -115 accuracy modifier at 64m.
Something's out of whack!
What you said is an oximoron...
"if you prone at your ideal rangeand use a high ranking shot you can down a commando using a flamethrower no problem, you just have to stay away from him"
If your prone at 60M .. how can you stay away from him?
At most you get two shots...before he is on top of you for a one shot kill.
Using Mindshot3 with a great gun.... (and with the bad accuracy of rifles if something is moving) I will almost never kill the commando before he kills me.
Heya!
A Flamethrower can be used in two ranges:
60-64m : Accuracy from -16 to +0 (60-64m)
16m or less : Scpecial range, accuracy from -7 (16m) to +16 (0m)
That combined with a max accuracy of +80 in the skill tree.......
On any ranges other then the mentioned ones, a commando is toast. Make use of that and you have no problem with commandos anymore.
As a rifleman in PvP:
- Never go prone
- move while looking for a good spot
- if you found a good spot, kneel as long as you can safely (will not be long)
Granted, you will miss a lot as well, but against a commando simply stay at 40m to 50m and your miss rate will be extremely lower than the commando's on these ranges.

Actually Bash it's a contradiction... an oximoron is something like "military intelligence"...

You most likely were hitting KD'd targets. There is a 50% dammage bounus for hitting KD'd enemys.
And to the rest of the thread..
Flamethrowers and LLC's auto fire hurts us riflemen real nice. It's almost like them hitting us with a strafe2, just they get to do it without killing thier mind. I hope the 2.5x dammage on heavy weapons is fixed soon.

Or "Rap music"
Those modifiers on the flame thrower are actually a commando issue... the ideal range has a huge negative modifier, and it's wrong lol.. should be 16m... known issue. Also, on my T-21s and my modifiers at 64m are better than that flamethrower (+11 at 60m, +10 at 64m)... so rifles canhave bettermodsat 64m.
And then seeing answers like," Must have beeen an NPC holding a rifle. I have gotten 22k damage when they are holding rifles."
Hmm, make my little 2k mob hits look pretty shabby. Maybe they should remove all rifles from the game except tuskan. Wish we had problems like them.
