Thread: DC-15 Blaster Rifle. . .
Some people were asking what the name of this rifle was from Episode II. Even though the Clone Wars take place a good 30 or so years before the time period in SWG, I personally would not mind having this rifle in our arsenal. What kind of damage do you think it would do?

No, its a standard DC-15. The shorter one is the carbine version and not to be confused with the DC-17.
Gotta remember that these weapons are old and outdated otherwise the Empire would still be using them instead of more advanced. The T21 is supposed to have been from that timeframe and is still in use due to its superiority. Not easy to develop a one man light repeater that good (heck how long did it take to replace the real life M-60).
They still haven't replaced the M60. Though if you want an even longer term example look at the German MG3 which is a direct copy of the MG42 from WWII. And which is also a basis for the M60.
Or the Browning .50 machine gun (M2) which has been in production since the 1930's.
Not sure what kind of damage it would do. But probably about the same as a mid level rifle at best.
As for how well it worked in the movies. Han's DL44 also dropped StormTroopers in one shot as did most of the weapons in the movies.

Yeah, but Han used a multi-slice exploit on everyone's weapons, no other way to explain how not only could Han drop stormtroopers with 1 shot using a DL44, but Leia managed to do the same with appears to be a D18 in ROTJ

Yes, unfortunately there didn't seem to be any point of wearing armor in the movies nor a difference in the type of weapon you had be it a T21 or a D-18 pistol ![]()
You gotta wonder how stormtroopers got the "elite" title and were "feared" throughout the galaxy when their armor couldn't even stop a stone tipped Ewok arrow and a half panicking smuggler can pop on square in the chest from 10 feet away yet his other 5 buddies couldn't hit him.
Then again we're talking about the same guy who's scripting let a 9 year old boy "accidently" autofly a ship through a space battle and blow up a capital class ship with one lucky shot in a direction his ship happened to land/crash at in a super vulnerable location thatjust happened to beexposed to open space. Gee, is that sucking sound the integrity of the movies slipping away?
/rant off
I liked it better when I was much younger and just stuff like, "Ooo mommy, the bad guys are shooting lasers at Luke!" or "Mommy! I can see Princess Leia's boobies! Bad Jabba! Bad!" Now I'm just cynical ![]()

According to the SWcanon, the Stormtrooper armor was able to deflect indirect hits, though not prevent penetration of a well aimed shot. Why were they so feared? Why were the SS and Gestapo in Nazi Germany so feared? They could die just as easily as any mortal, right? It's what they represented that people feared. Stormtroopers are feared because they personify the power of the Empire.
As far as the integrity of a movie slipping away? Well, "suspension of disbelief" is the philosophy to embrace.![]()

Of course Han had a sliced weapon, he was a Master Smuggler.

According to canon ST armor was also practically kinetic proof plus had built in sensor suites in the helmets. But we didn't see any of that.
SS and Gestapo were feared for a reason. Gestapo because of the nature of their job but SS were in the same degree as U.S. Marines. Elite trained and better than regular army or conscripts. Many a U.S. solider including my grandfather new they were going to have a heck of a fight on their hands when they found out they were going against front line SS soliders.
Personifying the power of the Empire or any nation/state/group can't be done with propaganda alone. It has to be backed with actions and supposedly they were. According to canon, when stormtroopers showed up your a$$ was grass...with a vengence.
Suspension of disbelief.. Well the ep. 4-6 were easy to swallow. Ep. 1-2 so far have been kinda...well kinda crappy. I hope ep. 3 gives some credibility.

If they had made the ST armor kinetic proof, you can bet people, especially rebels would have started complaining, so the devs were thinking of making it fair, no doubt, since the Rebels would not have had anything to compare, the closest thing being the composite.
As far as the SS being trained well, true enough, but the SS were also tough for another reason. Their fanaticism and their blind loyalty to Adolf Hitler's ideals and the ideals of the NAZI party(sounds like some certain White clad soldiers). There are stories of the SS committing mass suicide rather than surrender. Also in the SW canon, the Stormtroopers go through grueling basic training. After all, they conquered a galaxy.
Propaganda alone does not make one feared, but it plays a large part as Hitler and Stalin proved. Propaganda is a large part of controlling a populace. The Stormtroopers in game right now, are pretty much there for the "flavor" of the game. like any other NPCs they can only be expected to do so much.
Ep 1-2. Well, I enjoyed them. But, to each their own.
Nothing can compare with the classic trilogy, of course. George Lucas accelerated the evolution of moviemaking with those films. Now, special effects are no big deal. As far as the story and characterization. they were done well enough, in my opinion anyway.![]()
