Thread: Proposed marksman changes that would greatly affect your class
Howdy Riflemen,
As you can se <--- over there, I am the marksman correspondent, and,though not a rifleman, I am a master marksman. I am writing this in regards to several complaints I have received on the Marksman forum regarding the ranges of weapons. Many people believe it to be extremely simplified and ineffective especially regarding rifles. Of course people want to be able to shoot from farther distances, some suggesting upwards of 128m. Now I am not exactly sure what to propose as the maximum distance, as the technical aspects of the game could restrict how far you can see. I have my settings maxed and sometimes things still spawn all around me on Lok. Therefore our community has come up with a little idea that would help all rifle users.
Essentially, after acquiring a target, a rifleman would have the opportunity to double-back to the maximum distance of the rifle. I believe this would greatly help the immersion of the game as riflemen can pick people off from a distance, yet still allows people running on the minimum specs a chance to find their target. Obviously, people with better systems will be able to shoot without getting close.
Let me know what you guys think about this, as any change in the base class is going to mess with everyone.
Just bumping to make sure Riflemen see this. I've heard a great deal of support for this within the community, even among pistoleers and smugglers, that the ranges should be changed for rifles, even if it's just 10 more meters.
And I'm also asking about those creatures that can melee from 20m away, as that was always a pet peeve of mine while using a rifle.

The devs have said that they cannot increase the range past 64 meters due to NPC's not being able to target. They have given other excuses as well. Getting SOE to change everything around just so we can have a 10-15 meters range advantage over pistols isnt likely to happen. Therefore, we must think about it from a DIFFERENT angle.
Since we've already established that 64m is the MAX range, why not make it so that rifles can shoot 64 meters, carbines can shoot 50 meters, and pistols can shoot 40 meters.
This will keep allow each proffesion to have realistic ranges while not requiring the devs to upset the whole AI system. The only thing that would really need to be adressed is making sure ranged NPC's obey these rules as well.
