I'm currently grinding rifleman, I got myself a couple of T21's speed sliced with speed powerups and headed to dantooine. Get yourself in a solo group or group with a pet and leave it at the mining outpost to increase your xp for each kill. Try quenkers first for 5k from the terminal, (you are buffed and got armour on right?) keep your distance mask scent and crawl to 60m or so then headshot2 or the shot of your choice until they get close then kite them from a safe distance. Find some good stim B's too (400 strength or so for emergencies) and stock up on good brandy 400 strength/50 filling or less and veg canape or ahrisa for mind food. Don't forget to burstrun if it looks like you're in trouble, after you get conceal shot and headshot 3 it'll get easier then you can step up to savage quenkers with a touch more ham. I think you'll find that some hurton missions are tougher than others, matrons are tougher than others I seem to remember. You should get a skill box every few missions and you'll find riflemen in the solo group to teach you or find an npc trainer in a player city somewhere. I'm probably forgetting loads but thats all I can think of for he moment so try that out for the moment and see how you get on

Wrong, quankers suck for the novice rifleman. How do I know? Cause I to am leveng it right now and have found ways to collect 4000xp every 2mins. It took me over 10mins to kill a quanker when I was novice (screw that).

Anyway, got to Yavin. Once you get there look at your POI's, one of them listed is going to be a knickiks temple (spelled somthing like that). U need to read the discription and look for that word. Activate the POI and go on foot to it, yes on foot.

Kill absolutelly everything you see on your wawy there, you will get hella xp. Once you get there kill everything in the temple and then walk back to the OP, do this several times and you will have 4-0-0-?. That's what you want.

Once you have leveled that much THEN you can go to Dant OP and kill Pikets, hurtons, Vors, ect. I really suggest the Pikets cause they give up to4500 xp and it takes about 1:45mins to kill them.

Or, somewhat more comfortable no-armor no-buffs solution:

Loiter around Coronet (Corolag) starport, whatch the spam for "starting nafn group",join a sharnaff group hunt, and offyou go.

Stay a bit away from the sharnaffs, let the brawlers/pets/TKAs take the physical contact, and blast happily away from 50-60m range. It's a pain if you happen to get into a newb group with people aggroing the whole lair, but with some patience the XP is easy compared to the adventure planets.

And, if you pay attention to the chat, you'll get more teaching and apprentice XP than you can handle...you'll even get some pocket money.

If you can, get some vasarian brandy, and spam the highest non-area-effect special you got.

Greetings, Starman

This is my first response on the Rifleman forum, having gotten my Novice Badge yesterday, however I've been reading for several weeks in anticipation of addinga career. I also have been almost living on Dantooine working up a melee profession. When I got tired of my prey running away from me I decided to add a Ranged Profession into the mix, obviously selecting Rifleman. I found the huurton and quenker tough to take down with a decent Laser Rifle, maskscent, mindshot1, headshot, etc. The Laser Rifle gave me no decent killing power as the critters aggroed me. I felt stupid switching toPointBlank after taking down the Mind bar. Looking for an answer I stumbled across a forum note about a SprayStick (This is a cert you should have received in Rifles 3). The way I understood the mechanics the rifle works like a pistol, a very shot range and fast.So I found a WS that had one for 10K, I guess they are rather uncommonly used, and did my missions, adding a PUp to add 33% damage and PointBlank accuracy.

Worked like a charm! much better then a Laser for the closewet work. Did the inital work with the Laser and as the critters moved in, switched over to the SprayStick still did my HeadShots and the mind bars actually moved! Killed my first quenkers and huurtons without using any melee tactics. XP continued to move upwards. What took 2 evenings tomove from Rifles 4 to half way to Novice I completed in a few missions.

Note: sice the HeadShots rolled out faster your use of specials increased dramatically. Be prepared.

Since my Rifleman skills are still terrible I'll be keeping this little guy around until my skills can keep the critters off of my heels.

I havent played for around 2 months really so I dont know what changed.

Back then armor was always a total no no for every rifleman. Did that change?

Back to the topic,..well,..for me I did Sharnaff groups and got master in two weeks.

i use a T21 at range and as soon as they get to close
spam them with spraystick point blank fire.
watch out though as this will eat your mind and action
but they will die pretty damm quick
pets are also very handy for tanking with a t21

2 easy ways to level rifleman

1) get buffed , get brandy, get canape if you have the cash put on a good set of armor

go to Ft. tusken join a group(there is always someone there training squad leader) spam point blank area with a melee person around then solo 1 at a time with your melee group mate(you can sit back and let them tank) you will get xp from all of the tuskens you hit. usually about 100k xp an hour with little or low risk. when you need combat xp got to lok. on the poi tab go to corsair canyon and kill them. great combat xp and decent loot. that is the most low risk way i have found to level rifleman.

I haven't had much problem with quenkers at rifle III using a laser rifle for the first 3 or 4 shots then a spraystick when they get up close. I have never used armor, but with buffs and brandy I have no problems surviving two beating on me at once. AlthoughI do try to kill them one at a time.

When I'm only looking for xp (not money), I head up to fort tusken. I can take tusken commoners and raiders no problem with buffs but no armor. Anything higher is risky though.

But it cost me a good 60k to get up to this point when you include two decent weapons, vehicle, a stack of brandy and a buff. And thats a pretty penny for a brand new character. Alot of running missions on foot for 500cr each. I have two other master elite proffession characters, so I at least knew what I was doing.

On another topic, what exactly is the usefulness of takecover? Is it broken? I can get exactlythree shots off when prone before I'm attacked whether I use takecover or not. It seems to make no difference. Do I need to takecover outside of 64m and crawl into range? I guess I am missing its usefullness.

First, this is not an AFK grinding tip. If you AFK grind this you will die for sure. So be at your keyboard.

You need armor, ubese or better and buffs. The buffs don't need to be expensive +2500 buffs, PVE buffs of about 2000 or 2100 are fine.

Go to the GEO cave on Yavin 4
Just inside the entrance there is a spawn of Crazed Geonosians. You can't solo them but typically there will be a large group of people camping it. Go there and try to get into a group. You don't need to be in the group but you'll get an xp bonus if you are. It also seems that if there is a large group there the spawn is faster.

Go in the cave and to the right. If there is a group there you will see where the ranged guys hang out. From there look to where the mob spawns. Use the "tab" key to target the mob as is spawns and start shooting.

I wrote a macro to target for me.

macro name: TargetKiller
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
/attack;
/pause 5;
/macro TargetKiller;

When you use this, stay at your keyboard because people running up from the lower parts of the cave will drag some evil mobs up. If you're AFK you will most likely end up dead. Especially if you use that macro, because it will change targets every 5 seconds and you'll end up pulling one of those evil mobs over to you. I have a hot key set up to /dump; just in case I see a mob coming.

Final Tip: keep your map up (ctrl M). It will let you monitor lower level activity so that you'll know if someones bringing up a mob. Sometimes it's better to run
