Thread: Ranger/Medic Combo nerfed or just bugged?

Is anyone else getting attacked by creatures while using masked scent without it breaking?

I'm a Master Ranger/Novice Doctor on Chimaera, I usually go out with hunting groups to stock up on resources, instead of fighting (I have no combat skills) I use my medic skills to heal people while I have my scent masked, then I harvest the creatures once they are killed. Today I went out on one of my usual hunts (Squills from Anchorhead), we got to the first lair and everyone attacks the squills while I go round healing people that need it. After they had killed 1 or 2 squills and I had used a few stim packs I start getting attacked (scent still masked), I thought it must have been a close by NPC that doesn't like me, but then I have the squill kicking seven bells of **edit** out of me (scent still masked) and it incaps me. Now it couldn't havepossibly been a mistake by me (accidently attacking one of the squills or the lair) because a) I have no weapon equipped, b) I use the F5 key to heal people and the group list to target people.

Has anyone else experienced this problem since the last patch?

I'm pretty sure you can be attacked just by being in the group. I believe that was done so that MOBs don't just attack someones pets, but may ignore the pets and head straight for the individual.

Maskscent doesn't break in combat anymore. Hasn't since the last patch,

And, as you are healing people, according to the new TEF rules, which obviously the NPCs are aware of, you are in combat when you heal someone in combat. I didn't know it worked on non faction NPC's, tho it does make sense. I have seen it work this way on faction NPCs. I know it works this way in PvP.

Thanks for the heads up, guess you better start arming yourself. Not being a smart butt, just being pragmatic. I only have novice medic and pharm 1, but do a decent amount of healing in fights and combat.

Good luck

From what Ive experienced, once combat starts creatures dont check vs. maskscent. When that happens, anyone nearby is fair game.

I was hunting pikets today and my rifleman buddy nailed one in the head, and it went after me with my mask scent up and running.

this may be a bug, but i doubt it.

It's just that the many times before the creatures have ignored me unless I attacked them or my mask scent broke. Just surprised me a bit today when I had a squills attacking me. Guess I'll just do what JB suggested and put my armour on and hope for the best.

I'vea good story, too. I think it's the same issue.

Despite the arguments on this board that Camoflage/Conceal is no better than Maskscent, I've been a die-hard camo user since the requirements for the kits were changed way back in the day. Finally, the Maskscent advocates and the devs with their, "Camo isn't supposed to work against NPCs," got the better of me and I decided to try and use Maskscent exclusively starting this week to test it all out.

Last night was my first serious expedition this week, and I was hunting on Dantooine with a pick-up group and a couple of my guildmates. We had missions for everything from Quenkers to Voritors to Dantari, Mokk and Kunga. We'd been hounded by random Huurton spawns most of the evening, but two events stand out.

About halfway through our missions, we were shooting a Piket Protector lair, and a nearby group of Huurtons charged our flank. I didn't think much of this at first, but without firing a shot (I was 'peaced' at the time trying to harvest hide) and under Maskscent, a Huurton charged me and attacked. I threw a Phecnacine Dart at him, it worked, and I ran away as I shot at the thing and it died pretty quickly.

Near the close of the evening, we had just finished off a group of Dantari andI was firing on the lair. There was a pack of Huurtons nearby, but I had my Maskscent going and they were more than 60meters from us. I figured I was reasonably safe, but I kept an eye on them anyway. As the Dantari lair approached 60%, I happened to be panning the camera around and I saw one of the Huurtons light up and charge me. My Maskscent was intact. I had recieved no "you are being stalked" warning. He just straight-up charged me. I started firing on him, but I was already weak from abusing the specials for my rifle and I couldn't muster up enough Mind for a barrage of WarningShot. I tossed an Adhesive Mesh trap at the Huurton, but it failed, and as I tried to run, he incapacited me and killed me.

I am a Master Ranger, a Master Marksman and over 50% of the way to Master Rifleman. I wear a set of BioEngineered clothing that gives me a +25 bonus to Maskscent and Camoflage and I am a Bothan. Huurtons are small potatoes to me. They 'con' blue. The only thing that keeps me from hunting them solo is that they swarm and I can't fire my weapon fast enough to kill an entire spawn before one of them gets me. I have used ConcealShot to great effect on them in the past, but unless I'm after their hide, bones or meat, I don't bother because they don't deliver enough rifle XP to make them worth the risk.

So, I ask you, the community of rangers:

W T F?!

A HUURTON?!

A FREAKING HUURTON ATTACKS ME, A BOTHAN MASTER FiretrUCKING RANGER WITH B.E. CLOTHING WITHOUT BREAKING MASKSCENT TWICE IN ONE NIGHT?!

NOT THE CREATURE HANDLER, NOT THE TERAS KASI ARTIST, NOT THE DROID ENGINEER, BUT ME, THE BOTHAN MASTER FiretrUCKING RANGER!!

AND LETS NOT FORGET THAT MY "TRAP MASTER" SELF COULDN'T EVEN LAND AN ADHESIVE MESH (Scout Line, Tapping IV) ON THIS CREATURE TO GET AWAY, BUT WAS ABLE TO LAND A PHECNACINE DART (Scout Line, Trapping III) ON ONE AN HOUR EARLIER!!

What a special, special thing that Ranger has become! Same number of skill points as a Doctor, but without all that pesky usefulness! Bravo, SOE.

I'm not a Master Ranger. I'm Master Bait.

Aye... I've noticed this as well.

It has an item on the SotP, because my Medic detests being attacked while still concealed.

Welcome to the new AI rules that were implemented to beat Creature Handlers senseless. We were so bloodied from the nerf bat beatings that no one is safe anymore.

If one group member attacks something, it can potentially go for anyone in the group. If you are closer to the target than the attacker, there is a higher likelihood you become its target. That's not guaranteed as it might go for the one in back.

And as we all know, critters always aim for Rangers first.

Rangers can be 63 m away, sitting, not doing anything, and once combat with the group starts, every critter involved is going for the Ranger. Maskscented, camo, sitting in a HTFB, mod'd clothes... it doesn't matter, they sense us and want us for lunch.

The one big drawback of Rangering, we get all the aggro. Or is that a bennie, as I get a lot (or got) a lot of weapons xp.

You really need to turn off your /rescue macro. I know it can be fun to roleplay a Ranger that all the creatures hate but it's not very safe.
