Well I'm approaching that time when it becomes important to moniter my skill points. I am going to be a Rifleman/scout/ch. I have some points left over and one of my options is to take novice ranger and one first teir box. Is there anything in that range that makes this worth it. Will I pick up any cool skills or abilities? My other option is to keep novice medic and pharm one or go up to pistols 4.

I can't think of anything that you would benefit from with only one box... I would keep medic so you can still heal yourself.

As a rifleman myself, I must wonder why you still have pistols?

I don't have pistols yet I am considering it as a close quarters weapon. While my character is mostly planned I haven't figured out all of the tricks to all of my professions yet. Although when I learned about spraysticks pistols dropped in the ranking. I already have the novice marksman skill so I could get up to level 4 in pistols, if I take a brawler route, I can only go up one teir.

while i really enjoy being a ranger, the first box provides nothing more than a better camp than the multiperson.

novice ranger is a means to an end and thats it, no certifications (resucue comes from trapping I and conceal comes in WF I) so... unless you want a small increase in harvest, its really not worth it, sorry mate

I'd recommend keeping your medic skills, as others have mentioned, and not going with pistols at all. If you're planning on even going half way up to Master Creature Handler, your pets should tank well enough for you that you won't need the close-range help, plus with medic skills you can heal your pets faster while in camp.

Normally I'd recommend Ranger to anyone in a heartbeat, but if you've already got the rest of your character planned out, I have to agree that one or two boxes into Ranger won't help you out too much.

It all depends...

I'm a Master Carbineer/MCH and I have 3 boxes in the tracking tree. Why? Because I want to pull as much resources from a corpse as possible, as fast as possible and without any risk to myself.

If you have CH skills, you shouldn't need Pistol skills at all, or even medic. Your creatures should keep you safe. I rarely get touched when I hunt thanks to my furry friends. I usually get buffed before I go out ona hunt and that takes care of the need for medic skills.

If you plan on doing a lot of harvesting of meat/hide/bones (and now milk), I would drop pistol and medic skills and get as far up the tracking line as possible. Otherwise, IMO, any other Ranger skills are useless.

One thing people seem to be forgetting is that you can see more info about a creature with the ranger tracking tree. I think 0/0/3/0 ranger will let you see the specials of that creature you are considering taming--an extremely useful skill. It can also help find some of the rarer babies using /areatrack. I personally think that going as high up as you can in the tracking tree is a very good idea for any CH.
