Thread: Carbines or Rifles
Maybe old question, but looking for answer if its better for Master Ranger to go with Carbineer or Rifleman? Thx for any help folks ![]()
Honestly? It's better for you to go with whatever you enjoy playing. If you're asking about what WILL be good after the revamp, that's unknown. The last word we got was that Carbines IV was going to be in our prereqs, then that changed to "undecided" and we've heard not a peep from any red names since.
As with most things Ranger, the "best choice" (for you) is going to be what you have fun doing...
Whichever you think you'd enjoy more. There is no "best" profession with Rangers. Carbineer will give you a KD shot, a good snare, a few higher-damage specials. Rifleman will give you extended range, a weak snare, some high damage shots and the ability to shoot while concealsed. They both have good things and bad things. In other words, there's really no answer to your question that we can give to you. Which would you have fun with? Which style of hunting do you enjoy more? However you answer that is your answer to whether rifles or carbines is better.
"But why?", you ask... Well, good question. The whole point of the CU was to balance all the combat profs, so essentially they are all equal, but serve diffrent roles, so that players could play whichever one they felt was more fun, and still be effective in combat (wheather or not it was a sucsess is up to debate...)
That said, lets look at them. I like rifles myself, higher damage, more range, and I feel that it gives me more tactical options (cover and concel shot, for example) This will become even more important after the re-vamp. The re-vamp doc right now states that rifleman cover, ranger cammo, and jedi cloak are all being brought under a common rule-set, and conceal shot would be the only way to attack under cover. Downsides are that you move really slow when holding a rifle, and the DPS is lower to offset the higher damage output.
Carbines have lower damage output, but you can still find carbines that are as good or better than some of the rifles. Carbines also have more of a "crowd-control" role, i.e. they have more snares and state effects. Also, you move slightly faster when holding a carbine, and the DPS is slightly higher. I personaly don't like carbines for Ranger, because as it is now, you pretty much have to engage the enemy right away and charge in with guns blazing. Because of the wider array of state-effect specials, you still get tactical options, but it's just not my style.
