Thread: Proposal: Fast mini-revamp while we wait
Believe it or not, I still use my HTFB to heal my wounds! I am ok with Master Scout for now, just hope they keep the pre-reqs in Scout for the Ranger Revamp, then I won't have to change my template at all (unless I want to)!

I've also used the HTFB for the same reason. But sometimes, it takes less time to just find a doctor.
I am looking forward to freeing up some skill points, that is for sure.
We'd just also have the option to do neither.
/bump.
I didn't mind the skill point sink pre-CU, when they were marginally worth something. We were the most viable source of animal resources, especially from small or rare creatures, and through camo could get by without buffs and composite. In exchange for viability in PvP or against NPCs we punched above our weight against animals.
Post CU, however, much of the Ranger tree has no application. The best source of resources is terminal missions and a group. Meanwhile the most pressing issue for any combat player is CL, especially if you solo. Like a lot of Rangers, I solo, but my profession gives me no assistance.
Master Ranger plus elite combat gives me CL 80. I don't punch like a CL 80. Not even against animals. AdMesh and Creature To-Hit don't work.
Bounty Hunters once had to master all of Marksman. That was changed to Ranged Support so they could diversify and gain more combat ability. It was a simple change and they gained three trees' worth of skill points. I'm only asking for two.
This is a completely serious proposal.
Well another one, yes the creature to-hit bonus does work, just like camo works. Sorry I don't have any hard numbers written down, but I will make it a point to do so.

For what it's worth, I was one of Kettemoor's first Rangers and don't PvP. No grinding, no macros. I've stuck with the profession for two years.

So while we wait for the full revamp, let's have a really quick "mini revamp". Call it Ranger 1.5. This mini revamp would simply be changing the prerequisite from Master Scout to the Exploration and Trapping lines.
There's no reason for the Hunting line as a pre-req; you don't need Scout skills to area track, and there's no harm in getting Ranger harvest bonuses without the Scout bonuses.
As for the Survival line, Rangers without it can't use simply can't their high-level camps or foraging bonus (for lack of the /forage command.) Many Rangers wouldn't care at all as they never use either skill. Those who want to pitch Tactical Forward Bases or find bait really skillfully can train the Scout boxes.
This would massively improve things for Ranger right now with no need for extensive testing or respeccing. Bounty Hunters and Commandos were both given prereq relief, we can do the same for Rangers.
First, we aren't 100% sure what the final pre-reqs are going to look like. If we restrict ourselves to two now... it might lock us in down the line. Similarly, if we take two now ... and they change down the line, we may be stuck having to re-grind to a completely different template.
The other issue is the reality or grinding Ranger, as it is, without some of the Skills and bonuses that Master Scout grants and which benefit the current Ranger build.
Like I said, I'd love to see the extra SP, but it would just cause too many problems down the line.

Any "mini" revamp is wasted effort and a reason to not work on bugs or the "real" revamp.

Ranger just gives higher level of the same mods that scout gives (except camoflage). imagine not being able to build a HTFB kit as a Master Ranger 'cause you don't have theproper survival mod. Same with everything. I don't think it's possible to drop the pre-reqs and also maintain our functionality.

Yeah, we'd need like a re-vamp or something to change the whole Ranger prof to do that.....
What about having someone just slip in some general ranged/melee defense, speed, and accuracy to some high level ranger boxes. What i mean, is like put in a +10 or +15 to general ranged speed, general ranged accuracy, ranged defense, melee defense, melee speed, and melee accuracy to each of Wayfaring 4, Frontiering 4, Tracking 4, and Trapping 4. What would that add?
+40 or +60 ranged speed
+40 or +60 ranged accuracy
+40 or +60 ranged defense
+40 or +60 melee defense
+40 or +60 melee speed
+40 or +60 melee defense
It wouldn'tpigeon hole Ranger into ranged requirement (even if the revamp is leaning that way).
If you compare it to, say, MBH, the difference of having MBH and having NO BH is:
+55 Ranged Accuracy
+35 Ranged Speed
+95 Ranged Defense
+85 Melee Defense
+0 Melee speed
+0 Melee Accuracy
And finally, though the increases might seem very large, (e.g. get melee AND ranged increases) who is going to pick up ALL of master scout just to get one line in ranger for only a +10 bonus for all those stats? I can only see already existing Rangers benefiting, and not a huge influx because of an over-fixed solution.
Heck if they simply added some +20 or +30 mods of each of these to the Master box it'd be helpful.
I dunno it's just something that came off the top of my head the past minute, i don't even know if the numbers are right.
