How to Grind the Trapping Tree Solo

Prepairing...

Ok so your getting set up to grind the traping tree. Here what you need to get first.

Dweezle - this is a foodstuff avalible for purchase from your favriot chef. In most cases this will give you +15-20 to your trapping modifier. Prices and Stats will very by server.

Traps - you need lots of these in many verities.

Stink Bombs are a must. Stink Bombs lower the state defences of your target and allow you to stick more traps easyer.

After that bone spures, adhesive mesh, P-Darts and several others are all useful. You shouldnt need more then 4 types total.

Melee or Ranged defence foods (optional) - see below to determine which you need.

Brandy - Brandy helps you regen faster. If you can out regen the damage you take, you can trap indefently.

Ok now, look at your charecter sheet (ctrl+c) what are your defence values? Typicaly, you will either have high ranged defences or high melee defences. This depends on your templet. The following is my suggestion only. You dont have to follow it, but itmay make your life easyer. If you have high ranged defences, pick up a recon armor cert (if you dont already have one) and a PSG. If you have a high melee defence, pick up and assult armor cert.Finaly pick up the defence foodthat corasponds to your defences. If you have higher ranged get ranged defencefood. If you have higher melee, get melee defence food. The idea is to get as much protection as possable in one side of the other.

Setting up your toolbar.....

There are a couple ways to do this. Everyone has there own idea on how it should be done. This is how I do it. First I make sure my invintory is empty. Next I place: 1 brandy in F1, 2 dweezle's in F1 lower and F2 lower, and 1 defence food in F2. That leave you with 20 slots for traps.NowIput ~25 throws of each trap im useingin the remaining slots. This means thatI only have 3 noise makes on my toolbar whileif im useing adhesive meshI would have 12 of them. The idea is to make you toolbar run completely out of allthe traps at about the same time. Repeat the above on 2 more toolbars. So you have a total of three toolbars full of traps. If you have avalible toolbars you could fill all 6 this way. Now once you start traping keep going untill you run out of traps on ALL of the toolbars.

In the field....

Ok so your prepaired. You have your food, your traps and your armor. DONT forget your weapon. Here is where things get fun. Above we talked about defense. Here is where they are importian. If you have higher ranged defences, you are going to want to trap spiters (creatures with a ranged attack.) If you have higher melee defences you want to tank non-spiters.

At novice ranger you should have a traping modifier of 50. The +20dweezle food will bump you up to 70. This means you should be able to reliably trap up to a level 70 creature. Because we dont want to burn though stims, we arnt going to trap level 70 creatures however. We want to look for something right around 60. I was able to tank level 59 for hours on end without any problem at level 72. Use that as a refrence and exparement some to fine tune it.

Ok there are two options here.

First is to find someone with a equil CL to that which you want to trap. Pay them to pull a mission, ride out and spawn it, then drop the mission. You now have your very own traping ready spawn.

In the event that you cant find someone with the right CL, roam around dant or corellia a bit. Find a wild spawn near the level your after. I was able to find mid to upper CL 50s on both planets in the spitter and non-spitter type.

Ok put on your armor. Recon if your taking spitters, Assult if your taking non-spitters. (You didnt actuly think I told you to pick up that cert for no good reason did ya?) Eat your defence food your dweezle and take a shot of brandy. Now, open up with a stink bomb and follow it with whatever you like. After your thrown your first set, wait for the states to wear off. Repete. Keep going untill you are ready to level, run out of traps, or someone comes along, thinks your intruble and kills your target for you. At this point kill your target (if its not already dead), train if needed, reset your toolbar, and start over. Keep repeating untill you train box 4.

Side Notes.....

If you are traping argos (like voritors on dant), and several of them desided you look like lunch, take your time and dont panic. Kill all but one of them and go back to traping.

Write a macro to throw traps for you. Have it throw them on a 35 second timer, and in the exact same order every time. Id give you mine but as everyones toolbar set up will very, mine may not work for you.

If you health starts going down, or you start missing with your traps, check your food buffs, they may have run out.

If you have medic skills, or dont mind wasting stims, trap higher level stuff if you can. XP is related to level. If you go the stim route, dont forget your ruby bile.

If you trap out a lair, dont kill it. Drive 500 meters or more away, then return. It will have respawned with more criters and 3 waves again.

If you dont have novice ranger this system still works. Just check your skill sheet for your traping modifyer. Add 20 for the dweezle and trap things of that level or below.

Fellow rangers your thoughts and additions are welcome. Ill try to update this as needed. (And yes I like colored text.)

Why go solo?

First off, it takes more time and effort. You risk getting killed a lot more and having to waste time cloning.

Easier method. Buy a factory, make a load of traps. Doesn't matter what kind, although stink bombs and wire mesh seem to stick a lot more than some others.

Get into a group of 8. Let them know you will be primarily trapping. A spin group is great, as they may not need your damage input.

Toss traps until your arms fall off.Commom sense dictates that the traps are in the toolbar. Further, use a satchel or three to hold the traps you want to use - no looking for them in case you run out.

Of course, this entire post is predicated on the assumption that you are as dumb as a brick and didn't trap coming up the other trees. I maxed trapping in Scout and Ranger first under the old system, and with my new alt have 3 boxes of trapping versus 2 boxes of Scout and 3 in weapons. If you get into the habit of trapping and harvesting, all the trees go quick. And even with my Jedi, I still find myself trying to trap and harvest. At least I still have harvesting.
