Thread: Suggestion for Ranger Profession

I was thinking about hunters in general and what makes them unique to others. I thought of one trait that I wanted to share and see what others thought of it as I really liked this idea. Bear in mind, this idea just came to me so if it is posted here, sorry for the duplication.

Once a person reaches Novice Ranger, an abilty under trapping is given called "lure" or "bait". Using materials (bones, hides and meat) from the animal you wish to lure, you have a chance of bringing an animal indiginous to the area you are in. (you wouldn't, for example, be able to bring a rancor to the mountains of rori).

Depending on the types of hide you choose (Rori bristley hide) for example would bring up a list of creatures you try to lure. You choose the one you wish and if your skill is high enough, a pack of those animals would show up. Maybe if you were a novice, only one or a few would show up. A master, on the other hand, could possibly attract a lair.

How many times have you spent exploring the area looking for a specific creature only to run into humanoids. Me, personally, I love hunting midnight vir vurs on rori. It is sometimes a pain in the butt to find them though. A skilled hunter should be able to lure them like a hunter does today with bait.

From a professional side, imagine taking a party out to find specific animals to hunt rather than look, aim, kill anything that moves. Hunting fambaa specifically on Naboo is by random chance as are all animal encounters.

Creature handlers would also want to employ Rangers to take them out to find a specific creature they wish to tame. Might be on a seperate planet, but that is part of the package. At least they would know the ranger could lead them to the goal they are after.

To make a trap, only a generic crafting tool is needed.

At novice, lures can be made with a small percentage chance to find hard creatures. Maybe a higer percentage is available to low level creatures. This would help aid the trapping level so all of your exp is not spent chucking traps. This gives another option.

As you progress to level 1 of trapping, you get a +10 on luring and it increases by +10 for each level to master.

What do you guys think?

Can you clarify this a bit for me?

Are you suggesting a lure that brings a creature that has already spawned closer (and possibly away from their fellow creatures, thus allowing you to perhaps get a creature that is normally assistive alone) or, are you suggesting a lure influences the chance that a given creature will spawn in that area?

Ithink he means luring an animal you would not find in the immediate area.

Imagine running around in a big 1000 meter radius circle and you cover every inch of this big circle. You do not find sharnaffs. Yet you know that somewhere on this planet or region they do exist. Setting the lure raises chances of it spawning within the set area, or right by the lure are affected by skill. as would the amount of time for it to spawn, and the amount of these animals that you lure.

Correct me if I sent your idea out of whack.

You are right on target. The way I was thinking about it, last night I was on Rori in the mountains. Found a great ambush spot, right?

Instead of me always going to them, it would be great to "lure" them in near the bait. There have been many times on planets I have been standing in a spot and a con appears on my radar, right next to me. If you kill it, many times another of the same race will appear in its place (like it is programmed to have some creature there - happens around water a lot).

My idea is taking that one step further trying to guide what creature will appear. Not necessarily closer to you, since you would simply go to it. It would be nice to have that appear next to the lure (in essence, a trap). That is why I thought it would fit well under trapping.

Make more sense?

I like this a lot. On top of the obvious pros, it would also give people another reason to feel better about heading out of town with a Ranger in their group, If you are group inclined that is........

This could also provide a logical use for foraged food. Logically thinking, animals are in an area because of 1. shelter/safety (which there is none around a ranger) and 2) source for food.

Add foraged food items as an ingredient and it makes it tougher because we would have to foarge to set lures.
