Thread: Tracking,, umm not really
An issue with tracking is that there really is no need of it in the game 'unless' you are out there all alone. Nobody is going to hire you to track a lair of animals when they can go get a mission that gives them the waypoint and pays them for killing it off. The mission system cuts any middle man right out of the picture, meaning us as trackers.
The way I understand it, is that lairs are placed as someone takes a mission. So say I'm out there all alone and I want to kill Kima wolves, so I track them. When I find them there is a chance that I am killing someones mission. Granted there are static spawns in the game as well and not all are missions. I'd just like to avoid the "Dude, your killing my mission" comments.
So its great for us, solo, but as a way to make credits or be used/hired by other players, not likely.
2. Missions are based on your weapon skill. A group can take out things much more difficult than a solo player. Thus, a group wants to find those tougher things, not the lairs created by each player's mission selection.
I take Kima missions all the time. The funny thing is when I collect the money after someone else destroys the nest. I believe they are difficulty level 17 on Nashal, Talus.
yep, I can verify that I have been getting the money when they destroy the lair. Pretty funny too. I told them that they were doing my mission and acted like I was not there... like they was stealing something. So I just watched and he did all the work. I didn't want to say anything before tho: these fools might get a clue if we tell them

If you have seen the way tracking works in EQ then you would find a tracking ability EXTREMELY useful. Basically you get a lonnng list of names (colored and all) of things near you. You can select any one of those names and then begin tracking it. This could be useful for several things that a mission terminal and radar can not provide. Finding:
Jedi Master/ForceSensitive/interesting looking con white in the middle of no where named"Bob"
(baby) anything
Player Character Joe
evil well known NPC Fluffy the Krayt Dragonwho just spawned somewhere near you
PLENTY of use for a Tracking system for Rangers. Granted Bounty Hunters should get (and deserve) tracking through Probe droids, but Rangers also deserve by just doing the good ol Ranger thing of identify tracks. This ability shouldn't be limited to Medevilish time set Rangers.
