Thread: a couple farfetched skill ideas
I've been thinking about these two ideas.. and my thoughts were similar in that we should have a "Creature Harvester" or a "Forage Harvester" that allows us to set up a semi-perm trap (that we have to pay maintenence on ) that would in effect trap local creatures... and allow us to release them and skin them ![]()
Just think...
/CheckTrap
3 Durni
4 Gubbers
1 Sharnoff Bull (DOH!)

The concept being that you can either kill or release the creatures... if you decide to skin... you get no combat xp, no weapon xp, no scout xp... just the hides, meat or bones.
If you /release... they spawn and either aggro or run away depending on if they are yellow/red.
So in effect this is both of your suggestions in one item...
The only other idea similar to the lair summoning would be to add an ability where we could "Track" a special type of creature that doesn't normally spawn...
This would allow Rangers to actually "spawn" off-radar... a unique mob that doesn't appear normally in the wild... For those that played AC2, this would be something along the lines of the named special creatures that give a little bit better xp, have a few more items as loot, and are a little more aggressive/tougher than the norm.
Just think!
You could use your /TRACK skill to spawn Old Floppy Ears - the Crazed Durni champion... this Durni is twice the normal size and has twice the normal hp ... but yields slightly better xp, and more hide/bone/meat than normal... and it may even drop a rare item... (Old Floppy's fuzzy tail) or something... ![]()
NOW THAT.. is what /tracking is all about... and it wouldn't be terribly hard to code as basically you are creating ranger missions in the wild that spawn a single slightly bigger creature than normal (no new creature meshes needed).
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! ![]()

Okay, I know neither of these will probably ever happen, and everyone keeps saying to "love the ranger as it is," but I still thought I'd throw them out there:
traps that aren't grenades...
Traps that are set up on the terrain, like camps, and the target walks on top of them for them to activate. I know there are already turrets in game and Ithink I heardmine fields. These would function something like those.
lair summoning...
This one will never happen, but it would be too much fun. Using their knowledge of creatures, the ranger uses a specialized call and a group of aggressive creatures appear, quickly erecting a lair. In a way, it'd like a trap. The creatures wouldn't attack the ranger but would engage any other targets in the area.
Great ideas. The "tracking" of rares which would create spawns off screen I find as awonderful alternative tothe lair spawning concept and much more balanced. It could no longer be used for PvP purposes that way, which I had evilly intended it to, but I think the rewarding adventuring that would be provided through the lair tracking would be enough to keep most satisfied.
The ability to trap multiple creatures for the sole purpose of harvesting is intriguing. This sounds like a nice skill to drop into the Master Ranger perks. It would be the equivelant of turning us intomobile bones 'n hides factories ![]()
