Hi All, I'm new to the Ranger Forums, and Profession for that matter. I've been reading the forums, and looks like there seems to be some problems with the profession, but I'm looking forward to working my way to MasterRanger none the less. I like all the suggestions I've seen to the professions, but I'm not sure which would best suite it. I do agree that adding more PVP elements to the Ranger abilities would make it a lot of Fun, as Hunting can get Boring after a while.

Regardless My questions is, which tree would you all recommend to climb first, and is there a particular order you would recommend, or are these pretty much all par for the course?

Also I'm a Marksman with Rifle III & Pistol IV (Almost at Novice Pistoleer) and Ranged Combat III. What planets do you all recommend I hunt on. I'm getting Sick of Naboo & Correllia for hunting, but Lok & Endor seem to be real tough for one person without Pets.

Also are there any other Rangers on Chilastra preferably naboo based interested in meeting up and working together on going up the skill trees and training each other, and hunting. I'm usually on during the week 8-11PM EST during the week, and mornings on the weekends 7-12EST. Jas-Mo Stryder is my ingame name /tell me if you're interested.

Ranger is the one place that you need not really worry about picking one or another first to maximize your points. That being said, however, traps might wait a while. The 2 you get currently are area debufftraps and depending on your style if you don't want multiple critters on you then that can wait. Tracking and the new camo kits seem to be the most popular, altho the camo kits will be better after this upcomming patch imho. You will be called on by BH with the tracking tree when they get a mission that goes buggy.

oh, I should add, you can still use scout traps anyway (and gain trapping experience)which are more usefull if you do the single critter pull bit.

Scout traps also tend to be more effective than Ranger Traps. I'd keep using your scout traps as needed then move up that tree whatever comes.

For Frontiering, I highly recommend you start working on that now and camp whenever you get a chance. That tree always seems to be the last one completed because it takes so long, even under the newer and cheaper requirements.

As for where to go first, your biggest benefits will come from Tracking and Wayfaring right now. Wayfaring less so until the next publish arrives and conceal becomes much more useful do to bug fixes/changes. If I were to focus on any single tree first, Tracking is probably your best bet. That tree will net you more creature knowledge, some creature to hit bonuses, improved harvesting, and improved area tracking.

As for where to hunt, if you have been doing Naboo and Correllia, given your current state of Combat skills, I recommend moving up to Tatooine next. Tatooine, IMHO, is the toughest of the starter planets. I highly recommend hunting around the region north of Mos Taike. Up there yoou will find tons of banthas which are great xp both for combat and for Rangering.

Once you feel a bit more comfortable with your combat skills and get a little nastier , the next stop I would recommend would be Dantooine.

Good luck to you and welcome to the Chilastra Ranger club.

Wow, what a warm welcome, and great tips. Thanks I appreciate it everyone. I'm Surprised to because according to other posts BKB is the most hated Rebel PA on the server Just kidding. I'll take all your suggestions in and work from there. Again thanks It's nice to see such friendly peers.

Hey welcome to our crew of misfits. Congrats on choosing ranger.

Lok really isn't that bad. do perlek missions. as long as you can take one down (about 2k HAM for regular, and like 5k for ravenger, i think that's what it's called) you should be fine because they're not social. you'll make a little dough and also harvest precious avian meat for docs. just look out for everything else... they're not nice.

i have to agree with yavin being a great place to hunt for rangers...

you should be able to take on mamiens..and they give woolie hides. At the moment, yavanian woolie hides have pretty good stats on Chilastra. Mamiens are not social. You could take on higher..i don't know. I've got tka with only one combat skill trained up, the rest meditation. Male mamiens con yellow to me and females con white.

Plus, you'll get a LOT of scout xp on yavin..spawns are everywhere (at least whenever i go) and all the temples are really neat to go see. Good thing, too, are that there are very few NPC's so maskscent should do you fine (unless you like hunting npc's). Bad thing is...the quests that take you to the temples all seem to be broken..but they're still neat to see.

I am based out of Theed..but spend a lot of time on Rori..I've got wayfare IV and almost have track IV--not sure about wayfaring and trapping..I think i've got the 2nd tier on both, so if you need any help with training, just let me know.

give yavin a try, and if you have the points pick up 1/1 in CH, if you do that you can have a 8000 HAM tank to help you, yavin is the easiest of the advanced planets for rangers that ive seen, wayyy more creatures than NPCs ,nothing higher than a dark klicknick queen *shivvers* and i can take it without CH pets, just bleed anything you fight first thing, even if you die, you get the satisfaction of knowing that it died too >

Congrats on getting to Ranger

I'll echo what others have said about Tracking/Wayfaring. I'm currently on my second trip through ranger skills (dropped them to try a different career path, decided to go back to the original plan). Tracking can be very useful, and in a hunting party can be invaluable. Also, if you have CH skills you can use tracking to help locate babies. At level 3 you can tell not only what's nearby and in what direction, but also distance.

As for where to hunt, I'm rather fond of Talus and Tatooine when I'm on the lower-difficulty planets, and Dantooine and Endor for the tougher ones. Talus is great, but if you're tired of Corellia you likely won't find enough variety in the hunting to make a big difference. Tatooine is a great place once you get away from the main cities. As was mentioned, Mos Taike is a wonderful place to hunt, and if I'm on Tatooine that's my base of operations. Fly into Mos Entha and run, it's only 2.2 km. Watch out for the occasional Tusken spawn, and keep maskscent up, and you should be ok.

Dantooine is great fun if you've got a good tank pet or are in a good group. Endor is deadly, but if you're careful it's a really cool place to hang out. At lower combatlevels, though, there's not much you can accomplish solo. A solid tank pet is a big plus here as well.

I'm usually just logging in for the evening when you're logging out, but feel free to give a shout in game if you need anything. I'm just plain old "Stash" in game, and I run around the galaxy enough that it's always possible I'll be on any of the abovementioned planets, or Rori, or just hunting around my PA outside of Theed waiting for something better to come up.
