Thread: harvesting question..
Situation:
I play with two characters. One is a Master Medic/Master Doctor/Master/Master Combat Medic/ Novice Scout(0/0/1/0) / Novice Marksman (0/1/0/4)
I am also working with a Wannabe Ranger. (Sitll a Scout @ 2/4/3/2)
Right now, when we group, we still get more meat harvested per kill. My question is as he progresses up into Ranger, will there come a time where he'd be more effective harvesting from the critter solo then the two would grouped with the other person having Scout (0/0/1/0)
Right now with the numbers as they are, On a simple kill, I'm getting about 10-20% more meat harvested, but I'm wondering if there will come a time where a ranger solo would harvest more (Becuase of the 100% vs 60% harvesting group rate thing)
Am I making any sense?
"Could be my imagination, but I think they removed that 60% harvest thing a while back."
I believe it is your imagination... I believe I still receive a reduction when I group with my Medic. ![]()

Nope, it's still there. If you're grouped, even if it's just with your pet, you get only 60% of a full harvest. I believe the question is at what point does it make sense for a ranger to harvest solo versus two folks sharing harvests if the second person isn't high on the ranger tree. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that.
I'm at Tracking 3, doing a lot of regular bol missions on Dantooine. With my pets grouped, I get 57 units of meat off of a bol. Ungrouped, I get 93 or 94. That's a big difference. If someone else is with me that is of the same skill level I am, we'll get a combined 114 units off of one kill. If my partner's skill is less than mine, we'll get less units per kill, obviously. I do not, however, know at what point the solo ranger harvest will be more than the combined harvest.
Perhaps we could get some folks of different skill levels to do some testing. If we have scouts and rangers of differing abilities try a solo harvest on some common creatures, we can get an idea of where the breakpoint might be. You don't even have to get numbers for group harvests, as we know that they're 60% of the normal full harvest. Anyone game for this?
There is an advantage to grouping with other people instead of soloing when it comes to harvesting.
BUT it only applies in a certain situation.
Say that someone asked you to get 20k of a certain harvest and is going to pay you 1mil for it. 20k is a lot to get yourself. For arguments sake, assume that you harvest 1k an hour, that's 20 hours of work! no one wants to work that hard and that long. assume that you have to kill 10 creatures an hour get 1k, so thats 100 units of harvest per creature (it's only a theoretical situation... almost nothing drops that much).
If you were to work in groups, this would go a lot faster. If you were working in a group of 4, sure you would have to split the reward 4 ways, but it's a lot less work.
from one creature, you would harvest 60 units, your friends, if they were rangers, would also harvest 60 units. that's 240 units from one creature, instead of 100 by yourself!
This would save youtime and effort in a lot of ways:
1. if you all attack one thing, it will go down quicker.
2. more harvest from one creature means that you will reduce the number of creatures you need to find.
3. less need to heal, etc. because it is more people.
this is probably the only situation in which group harvesting would be beneficial.
