Thread: Idea for Ranger: Mob Repelling Fence Schematics

Rangers, possibly at Master, get a schematic to make deeds that can repel mobs only around your declared home or harvesters. This would help crafters out tremendously when they find that their harvesters are being camped by aggressive mobs.

Two ways this can work: The Rangers themselves make the deeds, or Rangers supply specific components to Architects, who in turn make them.

This idea just popped into my head. Pick it apart of all exploits, polish it, perfect it, insult it, beat it down, spit on it, I just want to hear some responses to this.

Sounds like a cool idea to me, but when player cities come out the aggro spawns around homes should drop...I hope

I like the idea in theory

Some things to consider:

If you were to use them to protect your harvesters / home / whatever - then it would be something that the rangers craft but anyone could use. And I dont think i like that idea. i think right now the ranger class needs more things unique to them.

If it were some sort of 'barrier' from the mobs to you, it might be really handy for marksman type of classes. Might mean that people are no longer dependant on their CH tanks. Can you shoot 'over' or 'through' the barriers?

Suppose you were to put in this sort of barrier as part of the higher end camps (I believe they are supposed to already do this? but who knows ). Do you think it would be possible to fight 'from' the camp? Do you think that'd be a good or bad idea?

To be fighting while in the barrier...they would never allow that. Basically, I could set up a harvester near any mob, put up my barrier, then free xp while I kill them all, immune.

What I would want is a fence that literally repels them...so far that even if you could fight in the barrier, they'd be out of range.

Also, player cities won't completely solve this. For example, I have a "vacation" home on Lok built in an area with buildable land so scarce that no city could come in and try and annex me and my land into their city, since there's no room. The aggro barriers would be a nice touch for instances like that.

I only say that it can be used by everyone (but have a limited time of use) so Rangers can make money.

Your right, it's pretty unlikely that they would allow a fence that you could shoot through. I'm not sure I would really want it if they did. However, just for arguements sake, suppose the fence had a certain HP. The mobs would then attack the fence, destroy it, and then come after you. It would just be a way of giving an extra few shots to the marksman?

I think the potential this idea has comes in the 'tank' like nature it has. right now, a marksman that wants to solo pretty much NEEDS a pet to tank for them. I tried it without a tank, and found that you cant rely on warning shot. Perhaps something like this 'laser wall' idea might give marksmen another option?

-- of course, to make it fair to the rangers it would need to be a ranger only skill. Meaning most marksman wouldnt have access to it. But it's just an idea to discuss - so who cares about the gaping holes in its logic
