Hey all,

I'm trying to come up with some good strategies for a rifleman/ranger. I'm planning on working on my rifleman, very soon, and thinking conceal shot would be of great benefit. I was curious, to the people here with a master ranger, master rifleman template - would conceal, mask scent, and conceal shot be good enough to kill most any enemy around?

Does using mask scent, and conceal really benefit one in battle?

I'm currently a 0/1/0/2 rifleman, and a 1/3/4/3 Ranger. I want to get to get to 3/3/4/4 soon, so I can conceal my scent on Dantooine...to help raise rifleman. Will it be of benefit?

Thanks for any information and help on this.

FWIW, I have found that at Master Rifle, I can simply go prone, spam headshot 2 (HS 3 is more powerful, but slower) and kill many-most mobs vefore they notice me (due to the inherent ability for riflemen to hide without even taking cover). /maskscent and conceal are great for moving youself into position and keeping stry mobs off you you, but keep in min that once a mob notices you, if it is a social mob, the whole gang comes after you regardless of /mask.

Will the enemy notice you less if you have /mask and conceal on? I mean the enemy you're shooting hehe

Actually i should specify the reason why I'm asking this is because right now I don't do much/if any damage with my rifle. I do a few k damage per hit, if I'm lucky, but it's if I hit them, and when I hit them if anything.

I need a good strategy for leveling up rifle

OK, here is a great *ahem* tactic that my bud and I discovered. Get to flurry shot 2. This is an area attack. Next, get a buffed, self healing, non-damage dealing tank. I choose a Doctor/CM with a weak weapon he was not certed for. Have him attack a piket lair (in general, Pikets are awesome for levelling combat as most of them give good xp and don't DB). The herd will aggro him and heal the lair at the same time. Now you just target the lair and spam flurry shot 2. He will hold the aggro by attacking the lair and your flurry shot 2 will eventaully cut down all of the pikets. It worked like a champ for me . I recommend you get your hands on a Krayt enhanced E11 rifle if you can. They are generall fast rifles and have AP2, great for levelling. Also, don't get discouraged by your current level of damage and speed. Once you master, you will be extremly fast and accurate!

I don't think maskscent or conceal will help keep you hidden once you attack the mob. Anyone else know?

Well I'm currently pistoleer, but I started working up rifles way back when.

But to answer your question yes. Master rifleman master ranger is about the best, ultimate sniper for PvE. If you go prone, use mask scent, use /take cover and /concealshot, you will pretty much not be seen at all be the mobs.

I'm told that if you miss 3 /concealshots in a row you get discovered. So what I would do is if I missed one, or especially 2 in a row, I would put 3 /aim infront of my next /concealshot. Or, just put 3 /aim then 3 /concealshot. TH has stated that /aim can be stacked up to 3 times, and it will be effective for the following 3 shots.

I use a similar combo...

Apply cammo, take cover, and throw 1 conceal shot. after that let your rifle hit once / maybe twice. This almost always pullls creatures out of a mob solo. Then you have your buddies help. Great tactic for getting those Nightsister Elders away from their rangers.

Just remember that attacking anything that is labeled a (scout) will result in it returning to the lair and BAFing.

Along the lines of what calc said... burn through your combat xp tree first. This will increase your RoF and give you more damage in group battles. Then get your AoEs this will allow you to damage the whole mob or one at a time. A good buff, and a few quenker missions will net you 20k weapon (carbine - rifle - pistol) xp per lair. REMBER TO GROUP WITH A PET, CARRY PLENTY OF CANAPE, BRANDY AND PUPs. Grouping with a harvesting droid, or with a med droid and leaving it at the terminals will give you a bonus to your xp as you go. Its great for getting an extra 4- 5k xp per lair.

Oh yeah avoid savage quenkers... their poison is stronger, they BAF more frequently and they hit HARD. Just plain Quenkers will do.

Oh and as far as killing most enemies around...

Right now the template your shooting for gives you a fighting chance with a good buff. I don't recommend spamming conceal shot as if it goes badly you have a whole MOB breathing down your neck. Just hunt smart.

And know this... when the Combat balance comes down the line who knows what they'll do to rifleman. I'm doing my best to get in the habit of taking on creatures unbuffed without specials. I'm having a great deal of luck and fun along the way.

Thanks for the help and information all.

Today, I was curious about conceal shot, so I went to Dathomir, and tried using it there. Conceal shot is a very interesting tool, and yes is a very risky tool. I was going after giant baz nithces, unbuffed and unarmored. I was very patient, as it took me 2-3 minutes to kill one quenker. I did do it though, and learned a lot about using conceal shot.

One thing I learned, stay further than 45m if at all possible. They walk around a lot in a circular fashion, forming a cross in the middle. They walk one way, turn around, and walk the other. Quenkers and Bazes both do this, I plan to test on rancors tomorrow. I found that as long as I'm outside the 45m block, that I'm almost guaranteed success. It's a lot of patience, though. I enjoyed the hunt though, I felt like I really needed to use strategy. I did get agroed on, twice, but I was able to get away easily without any issues.

Conceal shot is great, I wouldn't mind creating a small creature guide based on Ranger/Rifleman tactics. I think I'll work on that soon and publish it on the forums when it's finished...I can see a lot of interesting movement methods from the animals

Glad to hear your enjoying yourself.

One of the things I find most fullfilling about Scout/Rangering is that there's always something you can find that helps you just by paying a bit of attention. I look forward to reading what you find on different Crits.
