Thread: Can anyone give me some advice on hunting missions?

I am having a hell of a time completing hunt missions on the explorer terminals. I have tracking I'm ranger 1/0/2/2 fyi. I just can't seem to find the stuff I'm supposed to kill with very much efficency. Yes I'm taking missions for creatures I know for a fact are on that planet. I swear it seems like those missions make sure everything but what you're hunting spawn somewhere. I make sure I know what type of wild lair to look for too. If I spend the effort to be a ranger, shouldn't I be able to do explorer missions and have a better gain/time ration than if i were just doing destroy missions? I can see explorer missions being tough for non scouts and rangers. Can anyone please give me some tips on this I've spent(not wasted) several hours on this problem and need to know if thats just the way it is or if I'm not doing something right.
Hi - One thing that might help is that there are certain areas of certain planets that are more conducive to spawns of a certain type of creature than are others. What are you looking for? Maybe we can tell you where to look.
But the problem with these missions is that they are based on random spawns, and the devs have posted that the random spawn rate decreases as a planet's player population increases, so when the planet starts to fill up, then random spawns start falling off....
If you're really looking to make money being a ranger, then harvest stuff for people. Look on your galaxy's trade forum to see what people need and then go out and harvest it for them. It's the same thing as doing explore missions really - just that you aren't limited to killing 20 six-toed-green-eyed-snaggle-tooth mott calfs to get your reward.

That's what I ended up doing. I found an armorsmith who wanted bones(not avian) from Dant with OQ+SR=at least 1400. So off to dant I go. After an hour and a half of killing stuff I hadn't found anything with those numbers. bad luck I guess. I understand about the location thing. Eventually I'll learn where what lives and all that. I usually don't care much for credits and walk around with very few in the account. My weapon and armor are almost gone. I can't seem to find any crafters willing to answer my requests to repair my stuff. So now I need money. I'd rather be on a POI tour than grinding credits, but right now it's a necessary evil. What should I charge for that bone if I can find it this evening?
Thanks for the help
Well the first thing you should do is go to swgcraft.com and see what the stats on current Dant. boneare -- there's only two types of bones spawning on any planet at one time, so if normal animal bones do not have the stats that the armorsmith needs, then you will have to wait until the bone resources shift and check again (shifts happen once a week or so). If there is bone spawning that meets the armorsmith's requirements, then goto swgcreatures.com and figure our what on dant. drops normal animal bones. Then take missions for that creature (you might want to get buffed though, as Dant. creatures can get pretty hard to kill)....
In general, don't take orders for resources that aren't spawning with the qualities that a customer wants. If they are located on an adventure planet, you'll burn a lot of credits just going to the planet to check the stats on that resource.
But if you need credits fast, just run normal destroy missions, harvest the stuff, and sell it on the bazaar for 3-5 cpu.... - don't put it on the dant. bazaar though; list it on the coronet or theed bazaar terminal.
The things that sell the best, regardless of quality are wooly hide and avian meat. Armorsmiths look for OQ and SR in wooly hide I think, so if both are really high 900+, then you can get 50 cpu or more (people are paying 155 cpu for naboo wooly hide on bloodfin right now). Doctors look for high OQ and PE in avian meat. If the stats aren't that good, then sell it to the bazaar for 3-5 cpu.
There used to be a pricing guide floating around too - thought it was stickied but maybe not.
