This weekend my guild warred 2 other guilds at the same time. I figure, "Hey I am a Ranger now, I can track players!"

Basically the bottom line is we had an exceptional advantage to every battle because there was a Ranger in the group. I was leading every raid, telling everyone (Ventrillo makes leading while tracking very easy) where the enemy was, and finding them before they found us. We were the attackers in every battle even when the enemy came to us, and we dominated the war. Tracking was a great reason for our success.

Just wanted to post up successful PVP experiences.

ps: I should be Master Ranger by the end of the week! (4340 current)

Very cool

When used well, and with creativity, Ranger skills are truly useful in a combat support capacity.

congrats!

This is the first positive thing I've heard in the forums about Rangers and PvP. Interesting.......As a Ranger I'd think my strategy would be to lead the group to the enemy and then the SL takes over while I make a camp at the back as a rally/heal point. That's just my first guess, I very rarely PvP, and never have as a Ranger in a group.

Not only can a Ranger find the enemy -

He can also lead aggros thru them and make them use up time on their buffs.

Scenario - and believe me, we did it, it works.

Base is located at 0. Ranger is out looking at 501 meters from 0. Spots enemy at 900 m from base, North of base. Tells base. With luck, the people at the base have a mission terminal. They start grabbing missions for aggros at 800m or so.People from baserun out and cause spawn, Ranger attacks spawn, leads aggros to the enemy camp, and through it.

Yes, the aggros will attack thebad guys. Benefit, the other guys are using resources on creatures, wasting times on buffs.

And, maybe an overt is dropping a turret in the middle of noplace, to meet and greet the incoming baddies. After all, you know where they are. Again, just a delay, but a fun one.

Or an overt loops around to in back, stays out of range, and once the attack starts, drops a turret behind the baddies. That's really effective lemme tell ya.

Just hints

Yes player track can help,

I have killed 60 players in a 4 hour time span. All tracking deaths. I have escaped running through aggro... I have even hid in squill lairs while masked up to avoid 10 players looking for myself. I have sneaked into factionaly alighned towns to pick off stragglers. I have fought 70 or so jedi.

Tracking is often under estimated, and if you use your skills creatively you can excell at PVP.

When the opposing faction comes over and camps your house because you, by your self , prevent an entire garrisoned city from running faction missions.

He he. I handle both. But it always seems that they attack the SL first. And it's hard to hide the SL skills as they shout into spatial when you use them.

I think my approach is different because I have always been a PVP oriented player, and have picked up Ranger... rather than being a Ranger wondering how I can be useful in PVP. I may not be a Doc or Combat Medic or defense stacker, but I am always on the forntline of my team. Not to mention the fact our Squad Leader is someone's alt who macro's back at base while the rest of us raid. It's just not thought of as a combat profession and I like to exploit that generalization for my group's advantage. Sure I am not a single powerhouse by any means, but PVP is about large group fighting andnot duels.

I will be a Master soon! 4442 Ranger currently.

Haha, Pulling mobs on the enemy before they even get to the base. Now that's clever. It would be really cool if you could time your attack just right. Have your team sit just outside of radar range and when the enemy is fighting off the mobs launch a full assult. Nothing like using confusion and surprise in the element of battle.

There are 10 types of people in this world... those who know binary and those who don't.

Siarra Oman - Noob scout on Wanderhome, home of the great ranger meet up.
