What if Scouts and Rangers, even Squad Leaders, Commandos, and Bounty Hunters, were able to create wilderness caches of useful items?
This is sort of like the buried treasure loot item we occasionally find, but it's our own gear and we chhose the location. We conceal it and a waypoint is created. It could even use the current system of assigning building lots to keep this from being abused and the capacity would be limited to perhaps backpack size.
I think this would help us in those emergency times when our foods and spice run out, when we're a long way from nowhere, or when our weapon and armor give out from being hammered by something with big teeth. It would also allow us to travel lighter and keep specialized gear in storage, but reachable when the need arises.

I know this came up in the past, and I think it is am ok idea. However, with the new inventory limits this is less of a necessity than it used to be. Also, I have storage droids for the real emergencies.

other than planets where you can't build houses, couldn't you sort of do something similar by just dropping a small house on each planet where you can build, if you want to?

I have a droid with a 10 item storage container. Great cache, stuff in it never decays.

I have two droids with storage, but the wilderness supply caches fit, in my mind, with the RP aspects of the different professions.
As far as houses, those cost money. Not everyone has money to buy houses, nor to pay upkeep, nor even the desire. A cache is free.

What we had talked about the past was essentially holes in the ground in the backwoods that would eat up 1 lot and hold 75 (now 100) items.
So yes this has come up more. I still want a ranger only building that would be allowed on non-buildable planets. A true hunting lodge.

good point. I've got a couple storage droids that are always with me carrying spare stuff, and a couple houses. I definitely agree that there is an RP aspect there that could be cool, and if it burned a lot but didn't cost anything to setup or maintain indefinitely, cool - just don't know that this is something I'd personally want over some of the other things I've seen proposed (Ranger Hat!
