Thread: FS Ranger: Worth It?

I'm digging for the mods for the FS survival stuff, but I heard they were a joke. However, I have 3 sp left to spend, and I'm thinking of just being FS ranger for the sake of being FS ranger. Anyone else doing this? And could someone point me in the right direction regarding the FS mods/skills/branch that would benefit me?

FS is worth it depending on what you want out of it. For Ranger, you'll want to spend 4sp on FS since the harv bonus comes in the fourth box.

For ALL the info you ever wanted, go to the FAQ thread of the Force Sensitive Forum under the Profession forums list.

I REALLY want an alt, so I'm going FS. The prob is, to get an alt, you need to spend 24 sp, which if you're know anything about math, doesen't work well with MR and M. combat prof.

I want an alt so bad I'm actually seriously contemplating buying another account.

Anyway, to your point... 3 points on FS skills isn't a bad way to spend em. Go to the FS forum for all your informational needs.

Good luck!

ps. FS is also a fun 'something to do' once you've maxed out all of your xp. I enjoy that my combat and scout xp now have a purpose again.

Hi! I'm doing FS stuff among other things, tho not with any particular purpose other than I think some of the "loot" for different phase tasks is cool. The bacta tank looks great in my house, for example(which I finally got moved up behind the PA hall). So far I've unlocked Luck and whatever it is that gets you the tank - I think one of the healing ones. I'm probably gonna do the one that gets you the Aurellian banner this phase. Maybe someday I'll actually throw some of my remaining skill points into something, probably Luck. But if nothing else, it gives me something to do whenever I happen to cap a bunch of XP now, I go and turn it in at the village, see how many times camo breaks on my run there, fun stuff like that. I'm not particularly fond of Dathomir, but hey... it's something to do.

I've considered trying to do every quest in every phase, since hey - i've got nothing but time. But I just can't bring myself to drop any skills to get the one where you need to be either Master Medic or Doc or something, so that I might skip. Most everything else I think I'm going to take a pass at, why not. I haven't heard from anyone if any of the Scout/Ranger specific FS skills actually provide any kind of actual bonus or not.

I'm planning on doing just the quests I can without destroying my template (Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/Novice Medic). So far I have unlocked ranged accuracy, ranged defence, melee defence, survival and vehicular control. I've filled up 3 boxes of ranged defence, so I have no skill points left now. Maybe after the CU I might be able to drop novice medic and get some more FS skills. Will have to wait and see. TBH the FS survival line seems pretty pointless (eg +5 foraging pfft), that's why I chose to augment my combat profession instead.

The only vaguely useful survival box for a Ranger is the top one. Put your points into vehicle control and go and win some races.

I have 7 trees unlocked, 3 boxes full and about enough FS xp stored up for another 4 or 5, depends.

I can't drop anything right now, but when the Luck 4th box is full, and by then I should have about 15 boxes full total, it's drop MR, bash out the rest of FS, get an alt, run him up to MR. Then I may play padawan. Regardless, all I have to drop is camping and traps. I can keep tracking and harvesting. The survival line is odd if you think about it, why does combat xp get you survival skills.

Heh so my 3 points are best spent elsewhere, huh?

The FS Survival tree ( ie. scout/ranger ) is not worth any points.

If you get the entire tree you'll get;

+5 camping
+5 foraging
+5 mask scent
+5 trapping
+5 terrain negotiation
+5 creature harvesting
+5 creature knowledge

Now + camping is useless, you get the schenatics in the profession trees and you can't use +5 to get a schematic for a higher camp and use it since the camps come in +20 intervals.

+ foraging? Ermm, an extra 10% chance to get the bugged wedding cake maybe?

+ mask scent. Well you get +20, +20 and +30 increases in the scout tree. +5 sounds rather useless to me.

+ 5 trapping. Have to ask a +10 trapping species what CL they can trap over you, then divide it by 50%.

+5 terrain negotiation. Well, if you want to crawl a tiny bit faster maybe?

+5 creature harvesting. Will give you what? 0.05 ekstra resources at novice scout and 0.0005 at master ranger?

+creature knowledge. Hmmmm, maybe, maaaaaybe, you can see what kind of bone a creature has if you get the extra +5 on top of master ranger but honestly, the only instances where the game gives you +5 is from novice scout to tier1 and novice ranger to tier1. Can't remember what information you gain at those levels. If your a novice scout or ranger and don't plan to go up those trees. Go for it!

I'm doing the FS thing for the alt character and did the Enhanced Reflexes:Survival quest this morning (7th and final unlock - woot!). If you are thinking of doing just the senses branch, you might get working on it quick because we just started the phase where it is available. The quest itself is pretty easy. Five rescue/escort missions that take maybe an hour total to complete. However, as others have pointed out, the skill mods are pretty useless. If you have three points to spare, I think you may be much better off putting them into ranged defense, melee defense, ranged speed (currently bugged, and you appear to be a TKM, so screw it), or melee speed (if you aren't already speedcapped).

I'm running Ki'ara up that line just so I can charge extra from morons that tell me "You NEED to come track for me. NOW!" After all, being a "Force-Enhanced Master Ranger" has got to be better than a normal one right? At least that's what I let them think.

Call it what you will, I say I'm greedy and sick of stupid folk.

I am not bothering with FS survival, it takes 4SP and its only a +5 bonus! Im putting my extra SP into combat defences and speed, with a bit of extras throw in for good measure.
