1) We get Battle Armour. This is proof positive that the Devs did actually consider us and not leave us out completely !!
As for the Battle vs Recon discussion, well, I much prefer Battle Armour as a general purpose versatile protection when needed. As Rangers tho, don't we tend to go unarmoured, just relying on our wits ? ;-)
Assuming you do master another combat profession to enhance your rangering experience, well you could go for a heavy assault profession - Bounty Hunter or Squad Leader,
or a light armoured recon profession - Pistoleer, Rifleman
which would give you the access to another type of armour of your choice.
I'm guessing that The Assault Armour might negate some of our Terrain negoatiation bonuses if they wanted to do such a thing, as it is heavier than the battle armour.
2) Skill Point Reductions of some professions give us more options than before - we can now master Doctor, CM or BH where we could not before. This gives some intriguing possibilities, and BH is something I will definitely try (it also leaves 18 points free to get to Level 19 pets in CH !!!!)
3) The addition of the "radar invisibility" type skill seems to indicate that the CU allowed them to open up certain core code areas. This most certainly gives us the opportunity to request an improved version of these type skills in our Revamp. Riflemen get the chance to be concealed when prone and shooting, Jedi - well who knows ;-), but us Rangers would be well placed to ask for concealement whilst walking and camouflaged :-D
4) The Hat !! Other professions have been granted certain identifying items, so there is ample reason to assume we could reasonably ask for out hat
5) The Weapon !! Several professions have been granted certifications in unique weapons, some are really quite special. Again, this gives us the opportunity to ask for them too.

Traps don't take up space in the combat "queue" in the new system. You are shooting and traping at the same time. Traps are now 100% more usefull. You don't have to drop your damage output to pop a state or reduce something's defences. As it stands you would be stupid not to be lobbing traps left and right.
Some people aren't reading the docs very carefully. Recon armor gets extra energy protection (sort of a who cares for lots of rangers) and less kinetic (I guess Imp Scouts don't hunt avian much? Who'd a thunk it?). Assult armor gets extra kinetic, and less energy, yes it does sound like Assault comes with some encumbrances we wouldn't want. That's why every prof that does get it gets 60% mitigations when every one else gets 40%... cause they will need it, lol. Plus aren't we all crying that we want out of this creature centric roll? Well this is an in. Isn't it?
# Reconnaissance Armor receives a nominal bonus to energy protection and a nominal penalty to kinetic damage protection. This can be conceptualized as a free energy layer.
# Battle Armor has an even protection against all damage types - no modifiers at all.
# Assault Armor receives a nominal bonus to kinetic protection and a nominal penalty to energy damage protection. This can be conceptualized as a free kinetic layer.
As for rifleman being able to drop off the radar.. about damn time. It a very limited power. They can crawl but unless you are a Ranger... ya way slow. Tt has tons of limts and you have to be prone, Etc.
Jedi are getting some kind of cloak that lets them walk around off radar.
We should be dancing in the streets, what we see in these two things is our future. What was once undoable now is. We should be bursting at the seems with joy. We may have to wait a bit. We'll deal.

Tossing cold water on this post -
1. We get Battle Armor, which is not primarily kinetic, which is what we really need. Think about it, animals deal kinetic.
2. Skill reductions for many professions, not us tho. And skill points go up for our primary weapons classes. How in the hell can going BH be a positive thing? Mastering Pistols will take up 246 points, and I like being a Master Pistoleer more than I would being a retardate BH.
3. Radar invisibility, but not for us. Again, our idea, stolen and gifted upon a combat class.
4. Hats. I was just mentioning to myself - Self, if we don't get a hat, I am quitting. The hell with the health issue, the hell with the SP issue, I want a hat or I am outta here.
5. Weapons. Not for us. We are not combat.
Don't think of this as flames, think of this as a realistic view of your rosy world. I see hopes that will be quickly dashed and bright shinys that will quell the masses.
Just my opinion

We need to get out of our creature centric roll, and we need good stealth.
Now we have the leverage we need to pull it off.
I've been unbuffed with 1000 health for so long that on TC with marksman 4/0/0/4 I feel uBeR. I have more power than I did when I had that on live. Add armor that dosn't make my specials cost more and I'll kill more than I ever have. I don't hunt buffed in live so I can't make it without the "combat level" perma buffs that they are handing out with the CU.
This game rests on a firm foundation of Crafting, we are the a key part of that system. They can only do so much damage to us before the whole house falls down.

Agent I gotta disagree.
We are creature centric. Period. Pure plain and simple. I don't want to fight other players or hunt NPCs down, I want to kill creatures. That is why I am a Ranger.
With a minimal amount of effort and a macro, I can do 3 tiers of BH in 2 days. Where is the fun in that?

I enjoy tracking and killing large creatures. One reason is they seldom send you tells whining about how you cheated (yes BH boy, I ran around and you couldn't hit me, sorry, it's called tactics), and when they die, you can loot and harvest them.
The entireprofession is creature centric. We need to embrace that and expand upon it, not turn our backs on our roots.

eh how about less non creature gimped?
I could live with that.
I'm going to be creature centric either way. But its what the masses have been crying for. Good or bad, if history is any mesure, bad. I think Owens Last Doc covered it all very well. If it was like that I think we would be fine.
If I'm happy about our roll being expanded its only for the goodies that come with it. I'd rather be a kick ass hunter my self.
Eh you sold me. BH is always there if I want it. Oh ya we'll be able to do that too...
Screw the non creature stuff in Ranger, lol.

JBMatl, I don't have a problem with your desire to stay creature centric, but there are a lot of us Rangers who don't want to stay that way. There isn't any reason why there couldn't be two or tree branches off of Scout for different types of Rangers, just like CH which only uses half the Scout tree to get their "combat profession". This is not a complaint that they get to do that either. It is simply asking why does Ranger have to be only one kind of ranger, when in truth not only in the RL but in almost every other MMO game the Ranger types have several variables they can be, from damage dealers, to recon, to areaaffect, to nature controller and finally hunter. This would could then accomodate many who love the nature basic but would love to take it a lot further.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I find it funny that you complain about not getting assult armor while in the same post talk about running and shooting. Though I agree with you on its face, I'm reserving judgment till I understand how much of a movement pentalty that Assult Armor adds. BTW, you could always pick a combat profession that adds Assult Armor.
2. Skill reductions for many professions, not us tho. And skill points go up for our primary weapons classes. How in the hell can going BH be a positive thing? Mastering Pistols will take up 246 points, and I like being a Master Pistoleer more than I would being a retardate BH.
Obviously this change is aimed at the stackers, not us. I agree with most that I'd like to see in increase in value to the ranger class in pvp and pve that reflect its status as the ONLY prof that requires a master novice profession.
3. Radar invisibility, but not for us. Again, our idea, stolen and gifted upon a combat class.
Agreed. Would be interested if Rangers had skills that would break this.
4. Hats. I was just mentioning to myself - Self, if we don't get a hat, I am quitting. The hell with the health issue, the hell with the SP issue, I want a hat or I am outta here.
Don't care about hats.
5. Weapons. Not for us. We are not combat.
Interesting I could be for a weapon. I'd like to see the traps improved to be more similar to CM Posions. Some damage, application of States, DeBuffing of stats, movement, combat speed, damage(like itimidation.) And I'd like to see strength, potency, and effictiveness based on component quality like posions not like old traps.

The only thing that I could think of that would justify our abilities, which we have been asking for and designing ourselves, being given to other professions is this:
They are merely testing them out on other professions to see how they could give them to us.
I hope that this is the case, if they do not change our current state in the CU before it hits live.

i don't know if this has been addressed but with jedi getting their cloak and rifleman getting their cover, will we be able to track them?
