  • Damage calculations are now predictive based on accuracy & defense values. Damge still occurs between min and max amount but is not calculated on a per hit basis. An attacker will always hit the defender for the same value as long as no other combat values change.

Took this from the patch notes on TC5. I se this as good news for us, as it adds another function to our traps, mainly wire mesh, glow juice, and glow wire traps.
Properly not an intentional benefit to us, but a benefit non the less.

Yeah, I saw this too. Did a couple tests with various traps and didn't see a change in damage output or accuracy. I will test more later and feed back to the CU: Trapping thread.

That's great (pending testing of course ), for once something is logical. Thumbs up for now.

Another use???

Damage has always worked that way (well kinda, the mods are new but the core is the same) and those traps have always helped in that regard.

Only change is that the min-max range is gone now. Guess they decided to save a few CPU cycles by removing cirtical hits and the variable calculations. Good news... for the Devs and SOE

The defense de-buffs on our traps will most likely end up being outdated since they're changing around the mods at the moment but we can always hope.

A lot of the game mechanics have been hidden from us. I was chatting to a dev on TC5 the other day, and although it wasn't a huge surprise to me, he/she told me that the level system that we are now seeing has always been there, just they didn't present the explicit information to the player.

Aye, it's what they used when presenting missions to you. There's always been a group level too, hence the craze in 'solo groups', getting the group level up high enough to get Enraged Rancors and the like.

Think the old system seemed to be based on 'average' armour, and 'average' buffs, not the 80% comp, and 2200 buffs we're used to now. Think it also only took into account 1 profession based on the weapon equipped, rather than your 'template'. Given that, I think the new calculations are still a little off. As it is now a master marksman taking up brawler is in for a grind. It somehow needs to take into account the defense from your template, but your damage from the eqipped weapon and hopefully come up with your level somewhere between what we have on live, and what's currently on TC5.

Ya now that I'm leveling up a bit I'm noticing that the xp to level stuff is very much like live.

Think of this damage stuff as like the damage roll always being the same. In the short time it was up I learned lots about our traps.

Off topic question here, but it relates to grinding and thus levelling...

Can you gain experience from dueling? Just asking, because I don't PvP, so I don't know, but it occurs to me that it might be a slightly faster path.

Just reading the current in_testing notes. They say they're 'opening up mid level testing'. I've noticed they had skill builders and elite skill builder options on the frogs, so I'd guess they're about to open up the basic skill builder which (again at a guess) will let you build up to novice elite, and then you're on your own to level up again. We'll see shortly.

From todays Patch Notes:

Tiggs wrote:

Today we did another weapon wipe so everyone is using the same types of weapons. We have a few new things we would like for you to focus on with your play sessions.

* Please focus on mid-level testing (Levels 15-54)
o A mid-level character is considered to be a single "elite profession" or a mixed-profession template created with elite profession level skill boxes. You can find out what your character level is by referencing your character sheet (CTRL-C)
* Please test on Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine, Rori and Talus only

Additionally...

* Frogs will now have armor
* All trainers will be available please limit yourself to the mid-level testing as explained above.

So... the big question is, are the Ranger trainers rolled out, and who is going to complete the camping ggrriinndd first /evilGrin

Oh come on patch, download!!!

That gives Faction and/or PvP rating. I've never got XP for it.
