Can someone tell me how in hades you people are making money? My first go around stunk. I used business 3 to get a vendor but then couldn't post it on the vendor list because I didnt' have merchant.

Milk sells from between 30-50 CPU on my server but the big payday is when something really good shifts in, then you go kill and harvest. Keep an eye on your galaxy trade forums and in time you'll see someone buying some resource, just pick one that's in shift and that pays you a decent rate and go get it. See what your hourly rate is, but I have made 4 million in a buff (back before the free resource kits) harvesting avian meat.

Alternatively you can charge people to track for them, but that's my least favorite thing to do. If you are looking for a little extra change, forage for bait and sell it on the bazaar, it won't sell super well, but a lot of times there's none even available so you might make 10-20k a week.

Well, you check your galaxy's trade forum for good hunting contracts, hunt that stuff and sell it to the highest offer. It's very easy actually, naturally it depends a bit on good shifts so it might not be always something around, but the earned cash from the times where good stuff is around to hunt easily makes up for the times with nothing good around.

It's that easy..

Yeah, noone's put up contracts in a while on Bloodfin. Sad to say, the resource kits and the CU are putting a hold on it.

The only time I've ever made money was when Nabooian Avian Meat went for 170cpu at Rerinha's Buff Packs.

Guy wanting Lok Carni Meat for 20cpu.

If you can get a group together you can do kimos. but there might be more money in finding appropriate creature level that you can kill and harvest quickly without getting killed.

Of course, you can just start asking all of the following professions which need Creature harvested resouces:

Doctors: (Herb Meat and Avain Meat)

Bio Engineers: (any creature with High OQ, PE, and FL, Plus a bunch of named stuff for patches)

Armor Smiths: Leather and wooly hides

Tailors: Hide, quality doesn't matter. I'd do Dath Leathery but thats cause I got 600dmg DXR6-b and I can kill rancors quick.

well - someone wants lok carnivore meat for 20 cpu - I'm not sure of the stats, but this seems a little low, but maybe their thinking is that it drops from kimos.** edit ** the guy above just posted a link to the trade forums post if you're interested.

My suggestion would be to advertise on your trade forum that you're willing to hunt for people. A lot of established crafters have their own 'hunting lists,' and don't bother posting to the trade forums because the big guys always out-bid or out-spam them. My experience is that if you post that you are willing to hunt for people, you'll get more business than you can handle.

The other part of making money as a ranger is to keep your expenses low -- for example, buffs are always a good investment, because you can recover their cost in 10-15 minutes of playing time (if you're slow), but high-end armor is a bit more questionable, as are high-end weapons (do you really need that 2 million krayt enhanced t-21 to one-shot durnis?).

A vendor seems like a good idea, but even with merchant advertising, it's difficult to get people to come to your shop, and then there's the overhead for the shop itself and the fees for the vendor and the hidden expense (unless you have an alt) of the skills that you have to give up in order to have the vendor.

Put your stuff on the bazaar terminal at the cpu rate that you want for it (for example, 1000 units or carnivore meat for 20 cpu = 20000 credits) and then add in the description that you have more of the resource available for the price that you are asking and that people should contact you, etc....

And the last part is to be patient - you're not going to get rich overnight, though if there is a good resource spawning you might make a million credits or so for three hours or work. Still - that's three hours of hunting things and harvesting.

Finally, you don't have to sell things overnight -- like Bio says, people aren't buying stuff right now because of the CU and resource deeds, but these factors are not always going to be in play. So, if people aren't paying what you think your stuff is worth, then leave it in your bank account and try to auction it on your trade forums at a later date (note, though, that you have to have enough of a resource to make this worthwhile -- people may not pay150 cpu for 500 units of something.that is no longer spawning, but they may pay that much for 50,000 units of it or even more for 100,000 units of it).

My take on the CU is that it's going to be a boon for us rangers becausethere will be an increase in demand for various types of resources tomakethe armor, etc... that people are going to want. Right now, composite and ubese rule, and that means that wooly and leathery hide are pretty much all that armorsmiths need. But when the other armor types get reworked, we're going to see a call for a much wider variety of resources....

Lok Carnivore drops off Kusaks as well, I think. Check SWGCraft and see what looks good as well, and learn what each profession looks for. For example, high OQ, PE, and FL on ANY meat will sell to a BE.

with docs beeing nerfed in the crafting side I don't think there is much to do.

chefs also are looking at the CU to see what will be the impact on their profession.

In the while you can always hunt 1 specific target for 30-50. MILK

Milk is really hard to get in large quantity but BE and Chefs love it in large quantity (20k)

Playing 1-2 hours / day on it I can get 20k in less than a week. Then I put a message on the forum with the price and I sell it in 10min. Let's say 1million/week if you want.

This is true for eggs too.

And some pet stims call for fish meat or mollusks. Go read the fishing faq. Good way to get Wilderness xp.

yep - and while you don't get survivavl xp for harvesting mollusks, you can always macro it:

/ui action toolbarSlot01;
/pause 5;
/ui action toolbarSlot00;

Put your tool in the second slot and your macro in the first slot and just let it repeat.Use /dump to stop the macro long enough to let your ham regenerate and to stack the resources (they don't autostack). So you can run a shellfish harvesting macro while you're fishing...

Yes eggs too for sure. It was a great adding to the other harversting but I got screwed with a couple of 30k resources put into eggs.

Maximizing on dantooine you can get the following

-herbivore meat (5-10:1 even if bad quality)

-eggs (15:1 but it's hard having this in large quantity)

-milk (30-50 on stats)

from a single piket lair. Also 9k cash from the mission itself

For eggs, target the lair and with radial menù select collect eggs several times, till there are no more of them

*Disclaimer*
If you became a ranger to make vast riches and be wealthy beyond all your SWG dreams, leave now. Ranger enables you to make a steady income and a modest living. You will be able to afford some luxuries in-game if you so desire and will generally be able to pull a high-end item of the trade forums if you really want. But, you won't be able to go and buy every uber weapon and SEA you see. Don't expect to be able to bank-roll your whole city and guild off ranger. This may very well not be what you're looking for at all, but since the solo-group changes a while back, lots of people have picked up Ranger with their alts in the hopes of making tons of money.

*Answer*
1) Become knowledgeable about what profs require which resources and stats. This can be done by spending some time in the various profession forums, by talking directly with crafters on your server, or by checking the FAQ stickied at the top of this forum. Lots will be changing with the CU, but it is nonetheless important to know thy customer.

2) Talk to buyers - You will make most (if not all) of your sales by directly selling to buyers. Most rangers do not sell their resources through their own vendor. Almost all crafters will have a vendor set up where they would like you to drop of the resources. The second big benefit of talking directly to crafters is that they will often tell you which resources they are currently buying. Some will send a mass email to all the hunters they know saying "Buying X resources for XX cpu". Or, they may choose to contact you directly and say "I'm looking for 50-100k of X resources, can you help me?"

3) Talk to other rangers - Other rangers are a great place to get started. They will help teach you about what resources are currently spawning, what stats make a resource "good", and also help point you in the direction of key buyers on your server. Your server likely has an Ranger information network (RIN) chat channel set up where you can join in and chat with tons of rangers on your server.

This should be enough info to get you started. I hope it helps and that you have success making money as a ranger.

As far as the Vendor goes, some have alts that are merchants, some are merchants themselves, and others use a friends vendors.
