Thread: Leading hunts

Well since I am not sure were to put this.

Last night I had two guildmates with me while hunting. They are CL20 something, I am CL80.

I was hunting Rancors for battle armor cores and what not.

I figured they would get mucho XP out of this hunt sionce I knew all rancors would be higherthan thier CL.

Now I knew I would only get 1 XP from killing a Rancor below CL80 using rifles. I was getting from 3000-12000 scouting XP depending on what Rancor I harvested.

Now I thought since they were much lower that they would at least get credit for the rancor kills. Even when all I did was throw P-darts and root the rancors for them they got 1 XP for their combat skills. At times I was getting 8700 scouting for a harvest and one person I was training in scouting was getting 1000xp from a harvest.

What a let down. The only viable way to level a profession is running missions over and over?

How will this affect hunts?

When most of the MOBS I see on dath are below CL80. No player with a CL below 80 will want to hunt with me unless they are after scouting XP or organics. Becasue while I am out having fun and don't care about XP they are getting screwed and are being forced into running missions as the only way possible to effectively gain XP while grouped with a CL80 player.

When we killed Ancietn Bull Rancors(CL95) I was getting good XP off them. I can only assume XP is now spilt up based on how much damage you do to a MOB Again I would get over 5000 a kill they would get 1000-2000xp

Can anyone in the know help me out here? Maybe bring this up to a dev. How do you lead a hunt with a party of mixed players if the lower level players can't get more than 1XP per kill when grouped wityh a CL80 Ranger.

This is forcing me back to old habits solo hunting.

The reason is because when you group, everyone in the group gets their level temporarilyraised to match the level of the highest CL player in the group.

I'm not sure what the devs are trying to accomplish with this... it's good in theory, if you fight higher level stuff, you get leveled up too.... but... you don't get any better health...

It seems to work great if lower level players want to help higher level players... bu they still get the same XP as the higher level ones (XP is +10% for every level higher than the group, and -10% for every level lower than the group)

It does really stink if a higher level player wants to help a lower level one take on lower level critters.... the lower level players won't get incapped in one hit, but no one gets any XP.....

I've had several fights the past few nights when I've been the lowest CL in the group... it's ...... interesting..... We tend to go after CL 82ish type stuff, as there's about two 80's, some 60 - 70's, and me.... CL 32 - 39 (just got up to 39 last night) I get the full XP same as everyone else, and I do OK as long as the whole mob doesn't arrgo us, but I'm not sure just how much I'm actually helping kill stuff....

Don't forget, you're also in the middle of double XP week. This is going to change this weekend. All this lovely extra XP everyone's getting will be gone in two days or so.

The way xp gain was explained to us as this:

The amount of xp you gain is based on your individual combat level (CL), with a modifier that takes into account how many levels above or below your CL the CL of the creature is. If the CL of the creature is below your individual CL you get a negative modifier. If the CL of the creature is above your individual CL you get a positive modifier.

When you are grouped the amount of xp you get is still dependent on your individual combat level, but the modifier is dependent on whether the CL of the creature is above or below the GROUP CL. In other words, the base amount of xp you get is based on your own combat level and has nothing to do with the creature you are fighting. A level 20 scout will get a level 20 scout amount of xp, a level 80 scout will get a level 80 scout amount of xp.

If you are in a level 80 group and fighting a level 82 creature, each of your individual scout xp amounts will get a positive modifer based on the fact that the creature is 2 levels above your group level. (I don't know exactly what the modifier is). So the base amount a level 20 scout gets will be modified by the 2 level modifer and the base amount a level 80 scout gets will be modified by the 2 level modifier.

Unfortunately, as you are seeing, if you fight a creature that is waaaay below your group CL of 80, the negative modifier almost negates a level 20 scout's base xp amount. Thus the 1 xp thing.

This is how it was explained to us a few weeks ago in theory on the CU boards (we were told we could share this info). Whether it still works like that I don't know.

Lower level scouts will definitely still want to group with you because the DAMAGE modifer they recieve from creatures will depend on the group combat level. So if the group level is 80 because you are in the group they may get hit for 150 points of damage from a level 82 Rancor. If they are level 20 without you they may get hit for 4000 points of damage from a level 82 rancor. Big difference.

My group mates are also telling me they get an xp bonus to scout xp when I am in the group as a Master Ranger. But unless the 40% harvest bonus also affects xp I do not see how that could happen. Maybe someone else understands a little better than I.

Hey Paks, it seemd to me that scouting xp for harvesting was directly tied to how much you harvested. This could be tested with some vegash solo. If so then the harvest bonus we give to a group would improve the samount of scouting xp they recieve from harvesting.

That is interesting! In that case I guess the question is - what does the amount you harvest depend on? The CL of the creature? Your CL? The type of creature and your harvesting mod? Do they still use the equation that Nemo and later Obata figured out? So many questions, so little time to repec!
