Thread: Would Master Ranger/MCH with limited combat skills be a viable template you think?

Hi everyone. I'm a former Master Ranger and a former Master CH (never both at same time) and now since I love these profs and the horrible combat system we had is gone, I'm considering respec'ing to the following:

Master Ranger

Master CH

Marksman 1-1-0-4

Novice SL

(I already have 8 points dedicted to FS boxes, hence my SP limitations here)

It seems pets are fun to use again. I know Ranger is not uber, but I miss it and i want it back, call me a romantic. The ranged support and novice SL boxes will give me basic speed, accuracy and defense mods since I do not have enough skill points to really get an elite combat prof. I do not need medic anymore since I can use the new stims and I'll stay far from fights and doing low damage, so my pets should tank ok. i also got the Novice SL since I want to lead hunting groups and coordinate things.

Am I deluded here? Does this sound like a decent combat template for PvE?I should get level 80 and 3000 Health with this, no? And wear battle armor with no penalties.

I'd like your opinion. I'm afraid I'm missing something and I'll be terribly weak somehow. I know I can do miracles with both ranger and CH, but I'd really like to master both.

Thanks for your input.

Viable? I can't answer that for you, because we might have differing goals. I'm a CH/Ranger because I think it's fun. That should be the most important criteria. Follow your bliss.

Speaking from a purely combat point, no, it wouldnt be a viable template. The maximum level a pet can be is CL 70. And there are a LOT of things over CL 70 that will kill your pet in moments. I was an MCH. I loved my pets dearly. when I tested MCH on TCE3, I was horrified, and switched to bounty hunter. (No one told me to, I didnt see it on any template guides, I just thought it would be fun). I refuse to send my pets to their doom on a regular basis when they have zero chance of survival.

run away from this template far and fast. i play what professions i think are fun. ch is no fun anymore. if you enjoy collecting creatures and not fighting this is a good template, but if you like combat do a working profession. watching three of your cats die against a simple mob is a spirit breaker and its happened to me way too many times today

and that was the second time i got crabs...

Darn. And here I thought that CH was fun again. I'm hearing mixed reports. can anyone validate this?

Creature Handler is pretty fun. If your in a Group with plenty of others you can defenitly do fine. If you alone probably not. I find Master CH / Master Ranger is a Good Combo for getting Rare Pets, but Master CH / Master Pistoleer, or maybe Carbines would probably be more effective. I like how quickly pet health seems to regen after you kill something fighting them.

I am Master Ranger / Master Creature Handler and i love it. I have no combatskills of my own, so i dont fight much myself, but what combat is concerned, yes i can win, and quite easely too. lvl 84 mob is easy, even with a lvl 55 add, and that's without me interfering, i kill the 55 with my de10 pistol, and my 3 lvl 22 dewbacks kill the lvl 84 (1 had 50% health, the other 2 were 100% health).

i'ts true that u have to play what u really like, but dont let combat scare u, ch IS a combat prof now.

some of our skills are limitted atm, no specials etc, but we're getting an update to pets soon, so we will be very versatile in group, with a pet for every role

just my 2 cents

A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.

"we're getting an update to pets soon"... are we? Do you have a link to a dev quote that corroborates this? What does the update consist of? A CH/pet update would severely affect my decision to keep it or not.
