Is anybody else feeling somewhat hollow now that the most effective way to hunt, level, and harvest is by running missions?

I feel like the good old days of being a ranger and tracking out in the wild has now gone the way of the dodo. If you want to level, get missions. If you want to harvest, get missions. I didn't hunt this way pre-CU and I'm not a fan of being forced into it post-cu.

Now, I haven't had a TON of time in-game post-cu yet, but after 2 nights of learning the ropes, this was the lesson I was most dismayed to learn. The upshot to this is that you can now collect ANY resource in reasonable quantities. I will FINALLY be able to get some Talusian camo kits up on my vendor!

yup... they totally killed wild hunting. It was hard enough before to out do a mission runer/vs wild hunting ranger.. now its totally impossible.. this CU has killed more professions than.. well than anything they have ever done.. just another awefull side effect of this totally screwed up CU. One month left...

I've always hunted this way... mostly because I'm cheap... I like getting paid both for missions and for the resources that I harvest.

Not to mention actually being able to find the critters you are looking for.

Are all critters on the terminals? Yesterday I was looking for Langlatches on Lok but didn't find any. I refreshed for about 10 minutes.

Nope. I was looking for Lok carnimeat but the planet seems broken, no wild spawns at all anywhere. Best I could do was Kimo Hatchlings at Kimo town but they were only level 22 I think. I did try the GDK too for kicks but at over level 150 he pretty much slain me as soon as he looked at me. We are basicallynerfed into hunting only what we can get from the missions terminals.

I am lvl 80 and not looking for anymore XP. I'll do what I always did, grab a couple missions to pick a direction, hunt on the way to the first mission, do the mission, hunt on the way to the second mission, do the mission. After that I just keep going. Heck I rarely would use tracking. I'd just head for the next yellow square so at the very least I could search the lair for eggs. I was a 1 man ranger ameoba. If it moves and is something I am even remotely interested in I milk it or kill and harvest it, or both.

And honestly since I hunt solo, the thought of taking on grey to greens isn't that bad (with the occational blue to yellow) my harvest rate should stay pretty steady if I can avoid healing downtime. Tell you this much, I'll be high on vegash and have my tanking harvestor out there with me too... and mr JB(BountyHunter)Mat can't say nothing about it!

To clarify...this was more my method (except I did use tracking). I would grab a couple missions for what I was after, and hunt on the way. If the spawn were plentiful...I would keep going. If the planet was dead, I would head back for more missions.

So, no not EVERY creature is on the terminals, but every availble resources type was represented (i.e. if I needed Lok Carni meat, I could always find Lok Carni meat-type missions.

I do this too if it's just me or other scouts or rangers.

If I'm with a group they're all in a hurry to get to the next mission so they can get paid. (They're good about waitng for me to harvest stuff though...)

We have to admit that we were properly in the minority when it came to hunting wild spawn. The vast majority of players would hunt solely from mission terminals.
So. SoE just helped the majority of the player base to have more fun. While it is sad that one of our tools loose some of it usefulness because of it, I do not think it was bad for the game over all.

Now if they would just remove mission terminals from the adventure planets, so that they would be the place to go on real hunts and adventures it would more them make up for loss in usefulness on other planets.

It makes me ask why there are even wild spawns anymore.

Oh, yeah. To mess around with the crafters. Wouldn't be a complete screwing over without that, now would it?

Also, Explorer Mission Terminals are totally screwed up right now. You can't use them. Everything says "unknown planet" and has a 500 credit bounty for 2Km distance and not even a picture or a "created by" name.

I've always wished you could select between NPC and Creatures on the mission terminals..

We can choose between "deliver" and "destroy" mission from a tab on the terminal screen.. but sometimes you refresh for several pages before you can find a creature destroy mission on some planets.
(or, I keep coming up with too many creature missions when I'm trying to hunt NPCs)

That, and making more types of creatures/NPCs appear on the terminals would be great.
