Went out tonight to try and solo something fairly big. Someone sent me an email needing Dant carni meat so I took a couple lvl 70 graul mauler missions. I just hit lvl 70 last night so I was a bit nervous. Found the magic formula though, whooohooo!
Start with a kneecap shot or a p-dart and once either one of them takse, they were going nowhere. Then it was a matter of alternating shots. Feel a little guilty at how easy it was but racked in a good 7k units of very good carni meat in about twenty or thirty minutes before I had to log.
Tell you what, that first one was the most fun. Actually had my heart racing a bit, much like my very first rancor solo. I'm really liking combat in this nifty little upgrade. And yes, the icons are easy to interpret and remember.
Also, conceal shot and sniper shot are still borked

Nicely done! I've found the same thing - head shot to pull 1, then follow up with a quick pdart and kneecap, then "nuke 'em". Fun!
I think all the rifleman specials with a "warm up" are currently borked. From what I've seen, and reading their forum, looks like it's generally a case of "keep trying it and maybe on the 5th or 8th or 27th time you did it, it will actually work"... Ouch.

yeah, as a Ranger/Rif...er, Nuker, I can say they are broken, majorly. 42 tries to get cover up to work, and no luck
On a side note, Ranger's should get a skill where we can remove ourselves from the radar if we apply something...oh, no, we already lobbied for that but its technically impossible. Good thing to hear they didn't try to go behind our backs and give our idea to another profession

I know that has to be sarcasm because that's exactly what the new "cover" does. It also renders you somewhat invisible in addition to taking your blip off the radar. I got it to work finally but had hell getting the conceal shot to work.
You can't be within 20m of anything that can see you otherwise you won't take cover. Within 20m your cover is automatically broken no matter what. I also think you can't be within line of sight of your target. I would hide behind trees or berms or would stand up and dive back down before I could cover.
It's unpredictable at best but I sure like it.
