Thread: Trapping..
Should a Ranger not be able to set a trap in the wilderness, designed to catch a certain type of creature and return to it with a live catch? Sort of like harvesters can make? I haven't come across anything like this, and I think it would be a great utility to have. Certainly truer to the Ranger/Explorer mode of thinking.
Of course, maybe this has been discussed and I missed the boat, but that's what I think.

"Should a Ranger not be able to set a trap in the wilderness, designed to catch a certain type of creature and return to it with a live catch? Sort of like harvesters can make?"
- This has been suggested by other Rangers as well.
- Though several feel it might become unbalancing if the resourcesavailable through these stationary harvesters was too abundant.
- Now your idea of having it catch a live creature is interesting, though I don't know if it would be that beneficial unless you placed a huge number of traps, or visited them very very regularly. ![]()
- I suspect that they will be implemented (if they are added) the same way as mineral harvesters, with a hopper to store the selected resources.
I would say they could be designed to catch living or dead animals, but you'd ger more experience if it caught a living one.... could also be used in conjunction with creature handlers and more exotic pets.
I would also think they'd need to be checked on a regular basis, and if something is caught in there for more than a set period of time (ie. 2-3 days) the creature could escape (breaking the trap) die (making it much less valuable) or if it'sa dead animal trap then it would be worth next to nothing since it would be 2-3 days decomposed before found.
Yes, you would have to spend a few days at a time on one planet, or make several shuttle trips, but if you made it into a set route around a planet then you would be able to get into a routine, and it would supplement all of the hunting you do regularly. The more trapping XP you have would effect the percent chance of an animal being caught, plus you could experiment on different baits depending on your planet and prey.
Those are my thoughts, hope I'm not repeating too many aleady discussed ideas.

- If you don't mind terribly. I suggest we consolidate this thread with this one:

- The thread is also debating the viability of creature harvesters in a slightly different direction. ![]()
What if they had traps catch a live animal, but have the trapped animal become tamable. This would eitherget many CH's to take up Rangering, or give the Ranger a distinct trade that CH's (and maybe even BE's if they could be sampled for maximum quality)would definately be interested in. Even better make it so the trapped creature could be harvested (obviously destroying the creature) in addition to the above.
