Thread: Monster Info

What new types of monster info do you get at high levels of ranger? I've been thinking about going up the tracking route for information and to-hit bonuses, but are they currently working?

Also, as an addon, I only need tracking 2 so I can look for the elusive bounty hunter camp... does the higher level tracking give any range bonuses or speed bonuses?

I've read the "Novice to master" thread, but failed to see anything relevant to these questions. Thanks!

(Note: If there was something relevant, my speed reading skills have failed me. Sorry.)

"does the higher level tracking give any range bonuses or speed bonuses?"

- Range, yes. Apparently the range increases up to 500m at the highest level

- Speed, no. It appears to be the same speed at all levels.

- I see the following information at Master Ranger level (I have no idea which elements come into play at which skill level though):

  • Armor Rating

  • Special Protection

  • Effectiveness

  • Vulnerability

  • Aggressive

  • Tamable

  • Hide Type

  • Meat Type

  • Deathblows

  • Ferocity

  • Difficulty Level

  • Special Attack 1

  • Special Attack 2

  • Base To-Hit

  • Damage

Fact is that base-to hit and damage is pretty much useless information plus the tracking 4 skill only gives you the ability to find players which isn't very handy at all. I'd say stop at tracking 3 and use the 2 points for something else.

Any idea what ferocity is? I've seen it but am unsure of what it does, heh.

"Any idea what ferocity is?"

- Several Rangers suspect it is a factor determining the attack radius for the creature.

- Ferocity of 0 means you have to get within 15m of the creature before it attacks for instance.

- Greater ferocity means it will attack you if you are farther away.

- Its just a guess... There is no concrete documentation on it use.

The last 4 increases in creature knowledge give you the following:

Base to hit
Special Attack 1
Special Attack 2
Attack Damage

Attack damage comes at master ranger. Special attack now reads out correctly(it never did before) and come in the last 2 boxes. Base to hit comes before the special attacks. I am uncertain what the first box of tracking and novice ranger give. Probably resource type at least. I got (then)Hunting I, Novice Ranger, and Wayfaring I at the same time. I had a few points saved up lol.

I have yet to have anyone hire me to find stuff using tracking, so its benefit is merely personal. I use it liberally to find baby creatures(i have a few boxes in CH) and to pinpoint a certain creature for a certain type of resource. Although nothing in ranger helps me kill them faster, I can find them just fine.

I've suspected Ferocity is actually how likely it is that the animal will actually attack. I've been around aggro large desert womp rats that just run up and sniff and yell, but don't always attack. Something like a Mountain Squill or a bobcattattacks almost instantly.

"I've suspected Ferocity is actually how likely it is that the animal will actually attack."

- The example I chose happens to be that of the huurton huntress... Which has a ferocity of 0, and attacks if you get within 15m of it.

- Whether that is the true nature of ferocity I can't say.

Ferocity also effects if traps will work or not from my experience. If you go to Correlia there are these tall green spiky things that look alike like the Datooine Pickets, theres two versions the normal and the bulls. Both are the same CL rating I think however the normals have zero ferocity while the bulls have around 7. When i was working towards trapping 4 for scout i found that the traps worked almost every time on the normals but never on the bulls. But hard to see if it was the CL rating which was doing it or not at that time and i haven't come across them since on Corrlia to check.

Not sure if ferocity does more things.. but it has to do if a creature will be affected by warning shot or not. At 0-5 it'll work most of the times.. at 6-10 it might work.. above that.. don't depend on it.

- Ferocity seems to be attributed to everything under the sun.

- I'll add it to the list as What does Ferocity actually mean?
