So far im 4-2-4-4 on the ranger tree. The camping is going very slow. I think if i sit infront of the computer i will have 45 hours of disbanding to do. I have been reading that you get skill for making the camps. Im at work now and cant check this. Has anyone done this? How much do you get per crafting? If this works then ill camp and grind at the same time..

I know this much: you get about 100 survival xp by crafting a high quality camp kit.

You get survival xp for crafting any scout related item.

I gained the 22k survival xp from survival III to survival IV in the scout tree by sitting in a camp and crafting adhesive meshes in practice mode in about an hour.

Here's how you grind out survival xp.

1. Get 3 high quality craft kits (to lessen the crits)

2. Get a ton of bone and buy a ton of crap steel and crap petro chem off the bazaar.

3. go out in the middle of nowhere and make a camp (the biggest one you got)

4. Using the 3 crafting kits craft adhesive meshes in practice mode until your fingers bleed (they give about 75 xp and only take bones steel and inert petro chem)

5. Every 10 minutes or so disband the camp for an extra 1K of wilderness xp or so

rinse and repeat until happy.

Call this the obligatory anti-grind post.

Screw the grinding, the points will come. Go out and have fun. Hunt with a group, get your xp popping camps for healing and crafting and whatever. I was maxing out camps in as little as 8 mins with 8 people and pets. Not to mention the weapons xp and cash from the missions.

And hunt varied creatures too. Sure, the purple spotted whiz bang does the same thing time after time. What about the yellow bellied dingus? Learn more about animals now and you will be more valuable later on.

Come on now, you are going for Ranger, one of the most fun professions. Have fun doing it.

Fishing is more fun than grinding!

I've posted this about 10 times in about 10 different threads on the issue Fishing is the way for me, it's fun, it's interactive, and you get rich doing it (the last time i mass-fished i collected about 1k units of meat which turned into 100k for me. it was preposterously good though, PE OQ FL all over 800, and i probably will never see it again hehe)

fish is valuable to bio engis as it's used in Pet Stim D's, which they in turn sell for a buttload. the stats that matter are 33% OQ, 33% PE, 33% FL. fish that sums up over 2000 (oq + fl + pe) will, depending on your server, probably sell for 80-100 cpu.

btw, youCAN camp and fish if you stand at the waters edge and drop the campsite in the water. assuming it's not a super steep slope, the camp will go just barely underwater and you will be able to fish from anywhere in the camp, while gaining your survival xp

And when you do pull out a camp to heal up, pull out a pet and a droid. They count as guests in your camp and cut the time you get full XP to about 1/3.

or you could do another favorite pastime of mine. craft for xp when you are waiting on a shuttle.

I must admit the time I did power grind was when I was going for BH (a second time). I wanted BH back (which meant master scout) and I didn't feel like getting survival xp the old fashioned way so I grinded it.

If you are fortunate to have a group that camps then it's great. Personally I'm not big on grinding myself but if it's an hour or so here or there then I don't mind as much. I'm not going to spend a 3 hour play session grinding away though.

One of the things I like so much about scout/ranger is IMO it's the most balanced non combat tree in the game. To me it just doesn't feel like grinding. The xp comes as a natural by product of hunting. So to me getting scout or trap xp has never felt like grinding. It just sort of happened. I never intended to master ranger but I had a bunch of xp and got novice ranger just so I could get some again because I hit the cap. Over the weekend I got tracking IV and I'm debating going on through. Even if I don't master ranger this time I'll revisit it again some day in my SWG career.

i tested this when i was working on frontiering 4 way back when. it's not true

field base with 2 people and 0 pets took 12 minutes to cap xp. i repeated with 2 people and 4 pets anddisbanded the camp at9 minutes, and xp was much lower. 3rd time we camped for 12 minutes same 2 people same 4 pets and upon disbanding i got more xp than the first time when there were just 2 of us and no pets (not much more, like 200 xp more). number of visitors does not affect the speed to reach the cap, it increases the cap. to increase the speed the cap is reached, guests have to be continually present.

for example: when you set a camp in theed by the bridge, and people run through it, the number of people running through your camp does not increase the speed in which your camp caps out. it only increases the cap. in order for your camp to cap faster, they have to stop and hang out in your camp iwth you. with 2 people in the camp, field base caps in 12 minutes.

granted this was about 3, 3.5 months ago. the system *may* have changed but i don't suspect that it would have. i'll test this again once i break back into ranger (should be a couple days, depending on work)
