i know mounts can burst a bit further - but does TN of 50 on rough terrain cancel out any gains that a mount would have.

Mounts are still a bit faster than your normal run. I haven't noticed them slowing much if any on slopes either.

Base mount running speed (not gallop) is almost the same speed as /burstrun, so yes, there's a lot of benefit in having a mount even if you have Master Scout.

If I'm only running missions out of town I probably won't use mine, but that's mainly because I'm a part-time Creature Handler and I'd rather use the control space for fighting pets. If I'm hunting cross-country, as usual, I will ride Mercedes (Mountain Dewback...she's built for comfort, not for speed...), bring one of the Grand Wrixen along and swap Mercedes out if I need another cat or a bigger pet.

Of course, vehicles are probably going to make mounts obsolete anyway.

I'd have to say yes as well, at least over flatter terrain.

Another bonus to usinga mount is that if you are attacked, you can use /gallop, and after your mount becomes tired and can't gallop anymore, if you get attacked again, you can just dismount and use /burstrun, spamming the follow command to your pet. This effectively gives you a shorter time delay in between burstruns.

The only time I haven't wanted a mount as opposed to my own two feet is in really mountainous terrain, such as Dathomir or the area north of Bela Vistal on Corellia.

As a Wayfaring II Ranger, I've found that pound-for-pound, running equals a non-galloping Kaadu. This is entirely because of Terrain Negotiation. So I /gallop with the Kaadu for as long as it can (seems to be about 1.6-1.8km), /store it and then run the rest of the way, maybe using /burst for the 800-900m if I'm in a hurry.

And all of this is irrelevant once vehicles hit. Even the slowest one is faster than a galloping mount (or was last week ). Sure it costs money since you use HAM that needs to be repaired, but it's not alot of money. Speed > all

remember the big plus. Mounts don't slow down in water.

Of course vehicles are even faster. On TC I went from coronet to bela vistal in about 7 minutes. Also if something draws aggro on you the vehicle just keeps on truckin.

I wondered about this too and got a friend to race me. His kaadu was slightly faster than me over moderate terrain. Will have to try in the mountains and see what happens.

The experience that I have is that my Spat is only good if i am working with a mounted party (hunting usually) or i know that i am going to have to work a lot of water.

Other than that, i tend to loose it on the terrain when it is following me. so me and my gurreck (cute little puppy) just run around endor.

Well, as master ranger, mounts are still faster with the exception of hilly areas such as dath etc. On hills a master ranger is much faster then a mount. But get on flat ground and mount is definatly faster.

I had the best time on Dath the other day cause i opted to "hoof it" as opposed to riding a mount. I kept raggin on em(good friends) about taking so long.

But yeah flat terrain or small hills mounts are faster.
