Thread: Master Ranger / Master CH seems very appealing

I am following this line currently and I have noticed:

Taming for exp is fairly quick for a Ranger because of our tracking. Tracking generic mobs such as babies, you don't care what kind, is fairly effective. Tracking forspecific mobs is not so good because of the limit range and appears to be worse in areas of low Player activity (because nothing has spawned). It's fairly bad as a matter of fact. I was tracking GSP babiesfor a friend of mine and he stumbled across them faster then I was able to track them. But again if you are just taming for exp and don't care what kind of babies tracking is great.

MaskScent is good for sneaking into a nest area and taming just the babies...no fighting required. If you are doing this right then you don't need to fight. You will track mobs to lairs, createwaypoints and then bounce between the 5-7 lairsas the babies appear. Conceal hasn't worked for me very well and frankly maskscent is good enough (I am a Bothan Master Ranger).

I became a Master Ranger before I even thought of becoming a Master CH. I wish I had done the two together. Running around with maskscent up looking for babies would have generated exp, while created camps would have allowed me to multitask training my pets, and crafting more camps while getting camping exp.

When fighting I don't feel traps are all that. They appear to work nicely at lower levels but as youattack larger creatures they have a diminishing rate of return. I tend to aid my pet by using my pistol.

I'm currently MCH and raising ranger.

Going from TKM + Duelist + MCH (offensive powerhouse) to MCH + Ranger + Medic (don't shoot please!) is a huge huge change. It does take a very long time to kill things solo, which I don't mind right now because that gives me more time to trap Like yesterday getting 8k trapping xp off of one merek assassin (^_^)

However, I am preparing myself to rely on groups more. Which is fine, since the whole idea behind this change for me was to take on more of a supportive role

Another way to look at the Master Ranger + MCH + medic combo is to compare it against an alternative template. The only other one I am considering is: MCH,Ranger4040,Marksman 0202, Pistoleer 04040,Novice Medic. This forgos Ranger camps, traps and Darhmoir camo and has less medic skill. Instead gets some reasonable Pistol support. I think this might be the better balanced character.

Despite this there is an attractiveness to mastering the Ranger profession and being more of a pure creature based character. I only wish folks thought traps could fill in better for the pistol.

that template won't work.. youneed marksman -4-- to be a novice Pistoleer

You caught my typo ZartnokMalatar.Brain disconnected from fingers first thing in the morning. Imeant marksman 0404. I hope this doesn't distract from the fundamental question of the master ranger versus having pistol for balance.

I have learned that the two-man combo: Ranger/CH and Ranger/Rifleman can shoot up the forest like no other. CH pulls and hold baddies in one nice spot and Rifleman can AoE 2 shots and fight is done.Harvest and continue

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

You still won't have enough points.

I am going for Master CH/Master Ranger myself currently I'm Master Ranger/Master Scout CH 3243 Marksman 0400 Novice Pistoleer (0000) I have enough skill points left over to master CH and maybe put one of my pistol trees to 3

It's too bad all the Rifle/Rangers I used to know back in the day have all dropped ranger hehe. In fact, 80% of the rangers I once knew went the way of the dodo. Or maybe the webmaster... yes, I would like that more, b/c then they'd be coming back (^_^)

I just hope I get back up to MR before char copy so I can finally go hunting with some of you guys

I am a Master Rangerand aCreature Handler4323, headed towards master. I've been slowly dropping my pistoleer skills for CH skills, and last night I dropped almost all of my marksman skills to get medic so I could give AXP to a friend. Amusing, seeing how most of the people replying to this post seem to be Ranger/CH/Pistoleer, or Ranger/CH/Medic. The medic seems to be working out very well. I am not a quick-clicker so it was a little difficult to manage my pets, shoot, and trap at the same time. Poor PC is too slow! So now I just stand back and watch my pets and my friends (brawlers) fight and heal them as best I can. I'll have to re-evaluate once I hit MCH and have basically no marksman skills, but so far it seems like a great combo.

Ranger and Creature Handler sure seems like a good combo the more I ponder it. I am using pistoleer to get there, but eventually giving up pistoleer and marksman in trade for Master Ranger and a Medic 4&3 line is a serious alternative for me.

Ranger camo skills would be great for taming in a rough neighborhood.Master scout CL identification and Ranger location would sure make babies easier to find.

Since Ranger is the best (or only) crowd control profession it seems like at least one could slow down or keep away from an attacker with an appropriate. Traps would seem to be a good offense when used with a pet that is tanking. I'm kinda new to traps, but am having some fun with the scout traps.

It seems that this combo would work for quite a bit of solo fun but would also be a welcome additon to a group withtracking, camoand tanking ability. It seems like there would be quite a few different tactics possible with this combination.

Marksman -> Pistoleer -> Creature Handler -> Ranger seems to be a good way to get there. The pistoleer helped get creature handler trained quickly. The pets seem to be a good tank for protection while thowing traps.

I am a master ranger/master CH and love the combination. Was master ranger b/f starting the CH climb, and the tracking and maskscent skills worked wonders. I have more fun now treking into the backcountry of Dant/Dath/Endor...etc looking for babies to tame. Not a very good combo for PvP because of relatively weak combat skills, but great for PvE (will see how things are after the CH changes with next patch). I have only novice pistoleer skills and there are very few things (within reason) that my pets and I can't kill. My template is Master Ranger/Master CH/novice pistoleer with only 2 or 3 skill points left (looks like i'm stuck where i am, but i love it).

I'm trying to avoid this tasty combination..

My pistol skills really do just suck in comparison if I don't make it higher up the trees. So, CH is becoming more and more useful.

The number one reason this combo is great...

Both professions have Scout pre-req's. That means you have 47 skill points left to play with. With any other combination, like Ranger/Rifleman or CH/Pistoleer for example, you use more points getting to the elite professions.
