Thread: Traps Honestly...

Is it just me, or has anyone else ever said to themselves, "I sure wish my traps were more effective." Mind you, I dont mean "I wish they'd hit more" effective, just....EFFECTIVE. Given that traps are an entire tree in both scout /and/ ranger, shouldn't you be able to point to two different encounters, one with traps and one without, and say "See how much easier it was with the traps?" I can't do that now. It seems traps are litteraly there just so I can throw them until trap boxes are full. Anyone agree?

I think the big thing that currently bothers me isn't the effectiveness of the traps, but the simple fact that it takes me the same amount of time to use a trap as a middle-skilled Ranger as it did as a Novice Scout.

As I get more skilled with weapons, my weapon speed dropped, why isn't it the same with traps? Its always the same, long delay between queue and action, a delay in which I become motionless and wide open to attacks. Shouldn't my speed with traps increase just like my speed with my rifle?

I dont use traps at all anymore. I hardly ever hunt anything big anymore without being buffed and armored so pretty much allows me to tank anything. And seeing as I am working on rifleman I really dont want to waste pts on traps that I can use for Rifleman. Sadly I expect to drop the Master Ranger tag when I need the pts and drop the trapping line. Its useless.

Gonna apply those extra pts to CH

Hmmm, I use a few of the traps in every battle... and I do notice the difference if I don't use them. But yes, I do wish they were more effective than the are.

And it would be nice if there were more usefull traps in the ranger branch.

It is common for most people to give up trapping after the get through the line. I know there are many complaints about the speed of throwing a trap, and I am willing to be there is a note about it in the SotP.

If I'm hunting without buffs, there is a slight difference. Even then I only use them if I happened to have crafted them while waiting for a shuttle or something.

I mainly use the old standards: phen dart and adhesive mesh, but sometimes when I'm feeling extra special I'll throw in a sonic pulse, glow-wire, and the blinding one whatever its called.

Do things die faster? Not really. Do they keep me alive a few extra seconds? Maybe, but it also takes me a few extra seconds to even throw the thing which is that much less time I'm shooting it.

As far as I can tell, Ranger traps are utterly useless. The states inflicted by them -- when they work at all -- don't appear to have any actual effect on the mobs or on the outcome of fights.

The only traps I use are Scout traps -- Adhesive Meshes and Phec Darts. I use Rescue sometimes to pull mobs off my partner, for all that's worth. Frankly, if I didn't need the line to keep the Master Ranger box, I'd drop it.

I have to say, the one trap that is really really nice is the P. Dart. Omg, it's like a "get out of jail free". If you are ina battle, and losing, this gets you out of trouble almost every time. But yea, damn, wish the ranger traps did something. Maybe if they did an area "knockdown" instead of just blinding, and if they had a lot higher chance or working, maybe THEN they'd have some usefulness.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this.

I just expect a much more dramatic shift in the tide of a fight if I use traps, that's all. I mean it's an entire line of things only a scout/ranger can use, we can't use them aginst humanoid npcs, and we're the only ones that can even craft the things. They should make a HUGE difference. Like, Yellows-would-be-easy difference.

As it stands, the entire trap line is a series of crafted, worthless special attacks.

Perhaps we're looking at traps the wrong way. It was suggested in another thread that the best use for cammo kits was to pretend that they are beer cans (because of the resemblence) and use them for decorating your place to look like a fraternity house after a party. What do traps resemble? rofl

Due to the fact I play about 90% of the time solo and am a pistoleer I have to use traps. As said before the Ranger traps are totally useles especially for someone soloing. I'm not going to beat a dead horse here since it is in the outdoorsman proposal. However, now after achieving Master Ranger a couple of weeks ago I must admit I'm disappointed with the success rate of my traps. All I ever use are phec. darts and glow juice because I've found them to be the most effective and usefull for the type of player I am. I expected my success rate to be better once I reached Master Ranger but have been disappointed by the actual experience. For example, the other night I was taking out a kaadu lair. At one point I threw 5 traps in a row that failed on a male kaadu and finally had one work on the sixth try. This is unacceptable at the Master Ranger level. Keep in mind that the kaadu was a dark blue con to me and not a high level creature.

I love being a Ranger and using traps but am getting frustrated by the failure rates I continue to encounter.

There should be a trap that, when thrown, causes the enemy to flee a 100m or so.

I use traps, SCOUT traps. Our traps suck, we all know that. About the only use is to scare noobs with them. I like to find a noob outside the starport and toss a sonic at his target, after disarming of course. Then I ask what the heck the Noob did??? They think their pistol or rifle blew up.

Pdarts and glow wire. Ldarts if I am with my Smuggler buddy, his KD last longer if the target is dizzy. Other than that... pfffft. And I solo prolly 85% of the time.

And twas me said about the beer - many of my friends now have beer decorations for their homes - ok, Talus camo kits named for beers, but it's about the same thing.
