Thread: What if I give up Scout?

Fellow Rangers,

I finally mastered Ranger a few days ago and would certainly like to keep

it as my elite...however I would like to try some other profs. (weaponsmith) soI need to

surrender some skills pts. If I surrender scout, will I retain Ranger and my skills

since scout is the prerequisite? For that matter if I surrender any lower level

skill will I retain the ones above? Example if I were to surrender say Trapping I,

would I retain Trapping II,III, and IV...I am also master marksman, but I definatley

dont want to give up my combat skills...

Thx in advance,

Sirich

You cannot surrender prerequisite skill boxes without surrendering the skills that rely on them first. It won't even give you the option. Sorry.

You cannt drop scout . I suggest drop Ranger all together. I did it for 4 months and it was useless. I dropped it and got pistoleer. If they ever improve the Ranger profession with some skills that are meaningful I will be one of the first ones to go back. Camps are or will be useless soon, information on pets or other creatures could be obtained anywhere, detecting creatures (areatrack) in my opinion is useless. I found that the only useful areatracks were for NPCs and players. The other ones are not that great. Just get on a speeder and go around searching for creatures or whatever, waypoint them, and comeback. They will still be there. Traps? the best trap is Phenarcin(??? spelling)darts, any Scout can make them. They are the only traps I use when Hunting for Creatures. Camos are not better than mask scent in my opinion. Bonus hits to creatures will be meaningless as soon as you get a weapon profession. So, Why Ranger? I dont know. The Profession needs to be improved significantly, fused with CH, BE, or Scout and make it a basic profession.

I agree...The whole time obtaining Ranger (mostly on Dath) Maskscent was the only skill

(other than my Marksman skills) that were useful...

Definately agree.

If you don't like Ranger, go.

It's not a profession for anyone, only for those that truly like it.

I am decent in combat, ask the 9 or so BHs who were rather shocked to see a Ranger incapping and DBing them. Recon for PvP is what I am best at. Silly Imps can't hide from me. Guess they learned that, they now drop turrets when they camp - wow, I sit out of range (like I need to visually see them anyhow??) to mess with them.

What is best is the knowledge that without a ton of armor, or KMart special moves and weapons, or a flock of dumb azz pets pooping on my shoes, I can go to any planet I choose and not fear any animal. Sure, I can get my clock cleaned, but I can always beat feet out of the area should that start to happen.

If you want to be "BIlly Bad" - drive on - go for it.

But if you want to have a decent profession, filled with fairly knowledgeable (not counting the holo-grinders Ranger for a minute types) people, stay.

Your choice.

I'd say keep it and drop marksman and whatever other skill you have (you have 18 points left if you have master marksman and master ranger) gradually for other professions. If you want an elite marksman prof, drop the other 3 trees (you could even keep ranged support) and go for it. There are things you won't be able to do with Master Ranger, such as Master Doctor or Bounty Hunter, since they take too many points to fit next to Ranger's 140. But you can master any elite prof that requires one or two trees only.

As said above, if you don't think Ranger is worth it, you're on the wrong boards. Go to the BH board or if I dare say it, the TKA boards. Not to say anything specific about the people there, but you won't go wrong with those professions. Just what you need rather then our pathetic and pointless profession that no one could possibly like. No one except the real Rangers here, who actually camp for fun, enjoy the ability to actually use those phecenanine darts on Krayt Dragons instead of getting 'your trap failed..', who know all about the difference between camo and maskscent, the list goes on.
