Thread: A slight problem has arisen regarding Harvesting numbers

OK, I did a little tesing on TC last night. I of course don't have the darn spreadsheet I made, but I remember some of the results. At Hunting 4 (+45 harvesting mod)I was harvesting 50% of what I did at Tracking 4 (+90 harvesting mod). This makes perfect sense to me (although the mod is no enough). I conducted this test using Durni Bones, Corellian Butterfly Drone Meat, and Gubbur Hide. I used the exact same area to to harvest these animals (due to the regional fat vs. skinny issues). I plan to continue this test on some higher level creatures, but I expect similar results. This may have implications on the Million Monkey posts (I had it ready to go, until I noticed that it said 30% not 50%). If anyone has some more, recent data please confirm or disprove my work. I know in the past we have had data posted, but was the regional harvesting healthiness taken into account?

What about last night? Were you watching how I was harvesting compared to you?

I know this is really off topic, but does anyone know where you can get some good spreadsheets for professions in SWG? I don't mind doing number crunching as long as I have some tools to help in the process.

I was keeping an eye on it, but I am a lizard so i get +10 harvesting andI was tainting the results with veghash, so it is not a good indicator.

I can be almost certain this is the problem. If you look back at the original Master Ranger vs. Novice Scout harvesting thread, I was seeing something similar. This is due to the low yield of those creatures. A 30% increase and a 50% increase would give the same yield. If you want, I think I have a character with a few pistol, medic, and unarmed skills that might be able to help you kill some bigger stuff (Trandoshan named Viva, I think). You need something in the CL 30 or higher range to really start to see the difference. I should be able to pick up Novice Scout as well if needed (although I probably have it). Either way, we can just use the formula (1.0 + Harvesting_Mod/100)*Base_Amount and see if it holds. I can also come onto Wanderhome with a new novice scout if you prefer.

Tainting the results? tsk tsk... (Says the Zabrak who doesn't have Hunting 1 yet.) If you want, this evening, I can take some data about how much someone with only Novice Scout (I'm working on Explore tree first) Harvesting can do.

Just to check--is this a 50% increase or a flat 50%? I.E. is the +90 harvest mod giving you 10 resources vs the +45's 5? Or is it more like 7 to 10? Because, if it is 5->10ish then they must have changed something. If it is the 7->10ish then it still holds:

1.90 * 5 = 9.5, rounded to 10

1.45 * 5 = 7.25, rounded to 7

7 * 1.5= 10.5

7 * 1.3= 9.0

also,

10/1.5 = 6.66

10/1.3 = 7.69

so a 1.5 increase is closer than the 1.3 in this case. But the actual difference would be around 1.90/1.45 = 1.31. It is just small yields that confuse the issue. And, checking my TC character (Viva, near Theed), he has 2/0/0/0 brawler, 0/0/0/1 marksman, 1/0/0/0 scout, and novice everything else. Right now, he can tank quite well (although no armor or vibros) but he can't do all that much damage. If you have any sort of ranged weapon, I can try and tank while you kill. But we still won't be able to kill all that much. Although I can make a Wanderhome character if you want (or you can make an Eclipse one). Although it would be fun to go back to the days of trying to kill something like a bantha with a huge group.

Edit: Oh yeah, my results were done with the same mob (by grouping) with no veghash or anything similar. Just a Bothan Master Ranger and a Wookie Novice Scout killing stuff and harvesting. I also was able to compare between a Wookie Novice Scout, a Human Master Bounty Hunter (a nice intelligent one who didn't have any Ranger anymore, he picked up pistoleer instead [and, sadly, I taught him some tactics--now I'm getting owned in CDEF duels whereas I used to be able to beat him unarmored vs his armored ]), and a Master Ranger. We were hunting Mantigrue on Endor (20k missions). The formula still held up then.

Ok...I guess we stick with the 30% rule for now . I will post the million monkeys on the other forums as soon as my boss quits eyeing me...

Here is my original thread with actual numbers comparing harvests. I'dbe greatly interested if something has changed in this regard.

Try Krayts. I was hunting with a group, and as a Master Ranger I was pulling middle 700's in meat, while others were pulling between 350-500. I don't know what their skills were, but the spread is huge with those beasts....

HOW? Sometimes I can edit, and sometimes I cannot. WHY is this? Do I just keep forgetting how to do it? Or does the button disappear?

Er...anyway, yea, I suck at math, but uh...we need to be able to harvest more. (The last part was to add a little relevancy to my post)
