Thread: Why do I get 130 hides, then later 88, then 60 from same animal ?

Is this a bug or something ? Normally I hunt on dath for grinding junk so admitedly I dont really notice the amounts since they're so large anyway. However while hunting on yavin last night for mawgax I noticed this weird event. I first start out getting 2 mawgax missions. The giant mawgax would sometimes give me 130 hides of leather. The next lair it might be the same but also sometimes went down to 111. Then I track down a natural lair and same thing... giant mawgax only now the hides are down to 88, then 68 and even as low as 55-60 argh ! If I went back and get 2 more missions sometimes the numbers would climb back up to 130.

Other times Id be killing 2 lairs that spawned right next to each other and would see the difference on the spot. I'd kill a mawgax youth from lair 1 and get 77 hides, kill mawgax youth from lair 2. and got 55 hides (same damn animal). Dang it, Im trying to fill 2 100k orders here for an armorsmith but dont want to spend my every waking hour hunting on stupid yavin ! Whats going on here ?

This is, we think, no a bug but a representation of environment. Harvest numbers are based on how fat and healthy, medium size or scrawny the animal is. the same animal in different places will have varying raw numbers of resources.

2 100k orders? Are you insane? Getting 100k of the same organic resource is hard enough (i.e. you will need help). Doing it twice is crazy (especially if they are meant to be from the same shift). As far as numbers go, it's probably the fat and healthy/medium/scrawny and unhealthy thing.

Agreed. You will never fill that order and have the resource name be the same. you may get 30k of one then 20k of another. in a month you will have 5 different stacks of, say Yavinian Wooley that the merchant will only be interested in the first 20k and the rest he will consider junk.

With a team of about 10 and them all giving you what they harvest you might make a 100k stack...

To your more imeadiate question, make sure you are not confusing pigmys and females and males and Giants. Mawgax in one lair come in many, many different sizes. Each one can be healthy, medium and skinny.

Welcome to the Organics Market . Not at all like mining where you look for the Uber Steel hot spot and then go play KotOR.

It is a recently determined theory that animal resources are laid out exactly like mineral and flora resources that artisans dig up.

In case you have never been an artisan, this means there are localized areas that peak at a certain concentration then decrease the further away from that point you are. Think of it as a contour map except you are dealing with concentration instead of elevation.

What this means, is that when you harvest a creature, it takes the base amount then multiplies it by this percentage to get the harvest. (There may be some base minimums as well.) There is a rough way to tell how good the concentration is by seeing if an animal is Fat, average or skinny.

There is further evidence of this in caves where the harvest is always 1 unit. This corresponds to zero concentration because caves are not on the outside map where all the resource rates are determined.

Each resource has its own concentration, too. Animal bones might be very high while at the same spot herbivore meat is low and carnivore meat is average.

I assume he's talking about his pay, not the number of hides. 100k is what, 2k of hide for some folks? rofl

I pulled 70k units of avian meat of Kaadu's, 200k leather on dathomir with average 100 units a kill, boring as hell but doable.

Hmmm, I guess the message was reposted, so here is a repost of my response:
