Sordaan's Wagers
Draknev is known across the galaxy as one of the best hunters around. I've heard stories around campfires and in small cantinas about times where he has tracked Krayt Dragons for several kilometers just using his own senses. Personally, I enjoy using the latest technology to find my prey. I figure, it's there for us to use, so why not? But not Draknev, he uses just his eyes, ears, and nose to find his prey. But then again, unknown to most of my friends and business acquaintences, I lead a double life. On one side, I am a skill hunter, who takes down creatures of all sizes and shapes, in order to supply vital organic resources to some of the most renowned artisans in the galaxy. But that is only half of my life. Most do know this, but at one point, I realized I had hunted and killed all there was to kill in the galaxy, and so I took that leap into the dirty underworld of bounty hunting. Yes, I kill people for money, and with a great bit of satisfaction I might add.
So there we stood, before Sordaan, the Rodian hunt-master. And he has the nerve to actually question my hunting abilities. Me, Oreet, the great bounty hunter. How dare he? He may be my Rodian brother, but his doubt in my abilities was a slap in the face. But I was with my good friend Draknev, who was unaware of my "extra-ciricular activities" as a bounty hunter, and I felt it was important to maintain that I am just interested in killing creatures, and not other sentient beings.
I figure the only way I can truly hurt Sordaan while still maintaing the respect Drakenv has for me, is to take Sordaan's money instead of his life. So, after a few "tests", or hunting challenges, his lackeys gave me, it was time to spring my plan. I would hardly call those little hunting "tests" any challenge though. After a bit of convincing, I was able to get Sordaan to agree to some wagers to test my hunting ability. Obviously he had no idea who he was dealing with, or he would have just given us the credits.
Sordaan first sends us out to a remote trail in the hunting grounds. He tells us to kill 20 Uller Warhoofs. This was fairly easy. He would give us 20 minutes to kill them. We hop on the shuttle and ride to the trail. Sordaan must really hold us in low esteem if he shuttles us in, instead of making us hike there. Once we're on the ground, I put on my Imperial-issue Scout Trooper armor, along with my trusty Mabari Armorweave Helmet. I ready my Trandoshan Supressor pistol. While i'm doing this, Draknev puts on some strange armor. I know i've seen it before. I've seen armor like that on the forest moon of Endor. Some mercenaries hired me to whipe out a camp of what they called Maurauders. Draknev must have befriended some of them, and bartered for some of their armor. He was holding a very interesting weapon. I've only seen bounty hunters use this pistol. It's generally called a "scatter pistol". Basically it is a pistol sized shotgun that shoots out a spray of energy bolts. "Could Draknev possibly have exprience hunting prey other than creatures?" I thought. But now wasn't the time, we had a job to do. We start heading down the trail, and run into a small pack of Uller Warhoofs. After about 15 minutes of fierce combat, we had finished off all of the Uller's that Sordaan wanted us to.
We headed back to the shuttle and flew back to Sordaan's camp. You should have seen the look on his face when we both returned with all of the Uller horns he wanted. We finished them off in record time. He sent us to his supply tent, and a Mon Cal in there gave each of us a Ttochee pistol. These weapons are generally used by people commanding squads of troops in battle, and since both of us generally hunt alone, or in small groups, these wouldn't be much use, but it'll be good to keep around just incase something happens to my other weapons. Plus it is a very compact weapon, so it would be easy to smuggle it into places where weapons are not allowed. Especially if i'm on a "job" and my mark is hiding in a cantina somewhere.
But I wasn't through with Sordaan yet. 1000 credits and a pistol? No, that's not enough compensation for his insults. So it's time to step it up a bit. Sordaan wagered that we couldn't kill 18 Frenzied Wallungas in 20 minutes. I guess he figured we'd be scared off with this wager, but no, I'm in it to clean him out. So we hop the shuttle, and head to a different part of that same trail. This area was crawling with Wallungas. Luckily, these creatures are about as tough as the Ullers we just finished off, and so this would be a quick fight. After about 15 minutes, all the Walungas were dead, and we were ready to head back.
Back at Sordaan's camp, he was shocked we even made it back to the camp alive. But we made a wager, and it was time for Sordaan to pay up. We both recieved 2000 credits. He sent us back to the tent for some Carbine he wanted us to have. Personally, i'm not too crazy about carbines. I'd much rather either snipe a mark from far away, or get right up close with a pistol, but i'm sure i could fetch some credits for this weapon. It looks like some sort of relic from the clone wars. i've seen holo-pics of the Geonosian soldiers working with the Separatists during the Clone Wars, and they used pistols and carbines that looked just like this piece of hardware. This would really fetch a nice price if i can find a rare weapons collector.
But 3000 credits and 2 guns? No, i'm not done with him yet. So back we go. Sordaan wants us to kill 20 Mouf Roramasters. He does not want to see us killed out there, since he wouldn't get his money or weapons back if we died on the trail, so he insists that we get some help. After a few minutes on his comm, Draknev calls in a friend, Kenkin. I've worked with him before on big-game hunts, and so I feel comfortable with him watching our back. We decide to start the Mouf hunt the next morning, since it wouldn't be til morning that Kenkin could get here. Sordaan sets us up in 2 small tents on the edge of the camp.
The next morning, we look towards the gates leading back to Kachiro, and see Kenkin and his pet Varactyyl heading towards our camp. We fill him in on the wagers, and after a quick breakfast, we head to the shuttle. During the shuttle ride, Kenkin puts on his armor, but to my surprise, it was emblazened with the emblem of the Rebel Alliance. I thought it was best to not stir up any problems, so I stuck with my trusty old Ubese armor, instead of putting on my Imperial armor. No need to start any trouble unless it needs to be started. We land at the southern end of the trail, and prepare for battle. I decide to keep an eye on Kenkin while we're here, as the last thing i need is a blaster bolt in the back. In my line of work, you quickly learn not to be too trusting of anyone. Luckily, we killed off all the Moufs with no incident, and headed back to Sordaan's camp.
Sordaan couldn't believe that even 3 of us could kill all those Moufs in 20 minutes. But we proved him wrong, once again. This payout really hurt him. 10,000 credits. This is small change to me, as I generally get paid 50,000 credits to take out a low-life that just skipped out on a small gambling bet. But for a hunt-master like Sordaan, that's quite a bit of money to lose from his personal savings. As before, he gives us a weapon too. This weapon was really odd. It was a sword. Who uses swords anymore? Why use a sword when you can take out a target from so far away with a good rifle, that they never even see you? This sword though, was a little odd. It has a small resevior of acid near the handle. and had grooves along the blade. Apparently as it cut through something, it sprayed acid in the cut. Not the most elegant weapon, but it'd sure hurt if cut by it.
So lets recap, I've gotten 13,000 credits, a pistol, a carbine, and a sword from Sordaan. I talk to Draknev and tell him that we should do one more wager. I'll ask for 20,000 credits. Those 33,000 credits will be very hard for Sordaan to recover, so we'll take that, and hopefully by then, he'll apologize for his attitude and his insults. Sordaan says there is a problem with some spiders along the trail. They've been killing off his best hunters, and he wants them finished off. He bets us 15,000 credits that we can't kill all 18 of these spiders in 20 minutes. "Make it 20,000 and you've got a deal," I tell him. Sordaan agrees, as he really wants to recover his lost credits. Little does he know that we've been playing him the whole time.
We shuttle to the troubled area with the spiders. After about 10 - 12 minutes of fighting, we have eliminated all of the spiders in the area. We shuttle back to Sordaan, who I expected to be livid. But as it turns out, he was quite humble. He showed us the respect he felt we deserved. He shook both of our hands, and gave us our money. He then gathered all of his greatest hunters. They circled around us, and Sordaan presented both of us with Rodian Hunter's Medallions. The inscription on the back, written in Rodese, says "This Medal of Honor is presented to only the most skilled hunters across the Galaxy." After a few minutes of sharing stories with some of the hunters there, Sordaan pulls both of us aside, and tells us he has something special for both of us. Kenkin seemed a bit pre-occupied, and so he headed back home to Corellia as soon as we returned to the camp. I think he spotted my Imperial armor on the flight back, so I'd better be careful when leaving. Sordaan present both of us with a Fallenn Hyper-Rifle. This rifle is nearly as long as I am tall, but was surprisingly light-weight. This weapon will be perfect for taking out marks from a distance, and will make quick escapes possible if needed. This rifle fires a projectile towards it's target at a VERY high speed, and upon inpact, explodes into razor-sharp shards of metal.
After a huge banquet, we spent the night in the camp. I woke up very early the next morning, as I had a comm message from the Bounty Hunter's Guild, stating that a VERY high-up Imperial Officer was gathering the best bounty hunters across the galaxy to go after the pilot of the Millenium Falcon. But why would the Empire be so interested in a lowly smuggler...?

That was pretty interesting. I particularly liked the inner monologue and paranoia over the BH profession as well as the faction armor twists with the new guy that showed up.
Fine writing.
