Thread: Rifleman versus Bounty Hunter

I am switching to a new offensive skillset from Pikeman. I have narrowed down my respec options to rifleman and bounty hunter. I always liked both skillsets (I was a Ranger/BH dabbleronce). It appears that both areadequate these days. I enjoyPVP a lot, but I also love PVE. I am guessing that rifle is better for PVE, not as good for PVP, andBH is vice-versa. I am probabaly wrong, so I'd love to know some opinions. I want to be able to be self-sufficient in the environment and fighting beasties well like the rest of you, but I also want to enjoy myPVP. So which pathdo I take? I would love to hear some opinions, and it's very much appreciated as always.

Finally, I will be able to move soon (and get rid of these negative skills points)!

I find that BH is ok for Pv Creature, weaker in Pv NPC and totally weak in Pv Player.

I can solo any creature with traps and my specials. NPCs, really anything above level 80, tend to beat on me. I seldom PvP, but lack of specials would kill me there.

From what I see by looking, BH have a pretty multi-dimensionalskillset, it seems like it would be fine for PvP.Do you enjoy it, though? That is the most important thing.

anyone more BH or riflemen out there?

BH is also cheaper on skillpoints for us Rangers since you only need one line in Marksman. You may still want to go up a weapon line, but you get to choose which one if so.

I was BH with the rifles line. Then I got the Proton Carbine as quest item and switched to the Carbine line for the Rapid Fire.

I was a Ranger/Rifleman until CU. Respec'd to BH to try out the weapons. Not sure which I like better as I don't PvP at all. But thinking about going back to Rifleman for the range and the conceal shot. Plus I just got one of the ranged arms so it looks like I might go back to rifles.

I decided to do BH. Someone informed me that a lot of people pick up some squad leader with that. I was wondering if anyone has done this, and if so what skill boxes did you get?

They typically take the 0300 SL for a total of +40 to both Melee and Ranged Defense. Novice SL gives you +10 General Ranged Accuracy and +5 General Ranged Speed so that doesn't hurt either.

If I was to do that I would go with the Tactics line for the ranged accuracy and speed or the Strategy line for defense.

Go to bloodfin.org and check out the Profession calculator, you will see what I mean.

I'd honestly have to say that the Tactics line shouldn't really even be a consideration, it's only +15 general ranged accuracy. Though really I guess it does depend on if you can stay out of range of their attacks more or if you get hit more, that might determine which to get.

I was thinking this too, but those stats gained from 0300 can be compensated for with food and drink I believe. 0003 seems best because those mods are not as easily compensated for. Perhaps I'm wrong, I'll check out the template builder.

Are abilities still capped at +125? I think I read somewhere that they were, but it was a long time ago. If they are not, which will change my line of thinking, it will look like this.

If you are MBH/MRanger with SL 0300.

General Ranged Speed +45

General Ranged Accuracy +95

Melee Defense +145

Ranged Defense +170

How cool is that?

If you use SL 0030

General Ranged Speed +50

General Ranged Accuracy +115

Melee Defense +115

Ranged Defense +140

But it depends on your weapons, tactics, and hoping the abilities aren't capped at +125. If they aren't I'm going 0300.

BH/Ranger is very good for me in PvCreature. In PvP, it wouldn't be that good. Mostly because you don't have any state recoveries except KD recovery, but also because of the low defense, low speed, etc. MBH does provide a nice +250 in defence (advanced duelist stance), but against a serious PvPer and you'll be toast. In a group, however, you can ranged KD, bleed, stun/dizzy, etc. all in all a good profession.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.
