Ranger Archive

I'm just curious if anyone has applied to bethe "Ranger" liaison for the Devs. I see they've done this for Squad Leader as well, and probably a few other professions (if not all - since i don't frequent every forum).

I'm glad the devs are at a stage where they can start to tune up some of the weaker professions, and help tailor them to actually "do" what those professions should do.

There's been a ton of threads dedicated to what is wrong with this profession, and it may, or may not be, beneficial to consolidate those ideas into a single thread, and offer any positive (and realistic) ideas.

I think we should also try to get on the same page as to what our definition of a ranger is as well.

So basically I'd like to open up the floor to any suggestions, whether they've been mentioned before or not, and also to critique any of those suggestions in order to create a consensus.

Well actually it looks like the other thread covering this topic, more or less, encompasses everything I just talked about. Might as well ignore this thread, and continue posting in the other. That way we don't have 20 threads covering the same topic.

I applied for both. Currently a novice ranger and SL on starsider. Hopefully I'll get one.

I offered to fill the position. There are some good ideas out there, but there are also some pretty radical ideas. Some people think the class needs to be redone from the ground up, but I must disagree there. To be honest, I don't think we (myself included) know enough about how all the mods and abilities are supposed to work. My biggest question is - do our continued bonuses to our former abilties (such as Trapping) make us significantly better than Scouts? For example, does a Master Ranger's Adhesive Mesh last significantly longer than a Master Scout's? Without knowing this information, it's really difficult for me to evaluate the current condition of the class, for keep in mind we are by definition supposed to be Elite Scouts. I can live with not getting tons of new abilities, if we are significantly better at our old abilities than Scouts.
