Thread: New style hunting
I was reading about the ideas for hunting, namely tracking and better ground speed. If one looks at real world hunting (perhaps an absurdity, but...) prey type animals don't run up and attack you, they run away. Successful hunting in this context would be to lock a track on a creature, fire your weapon and follow it to its new location, and fire again. As soon as you get a weapon better than CDEF, this takes only one or two shots with the difficulty 5 and 6 creatures. Plain old marksmen would only be able to hunt by using volume of fire, or placing their guys to anticipate where creatures will flee.
Hunting should be a question of tracking prey, not fighting off herbivoures at point blank range. As scouts and rangers got more tracking and faster movement, their pursuit of prey would be ever more effective. Rifle using scouts and rangers attacking from long range would still get the benefit of startled animals not knowing which way to run, and carbine using scouts would be getting their penalty to firing while moving reduced, for the shot on the run style. Once a single animal bolts, the herd should bolt. Eventually they will skittishly return to their lair, so even when you lose them, you know where to find them again.

The tracks could lead you to a special creature. The length of time it takes to track determiens the XP. This creature would general be more difficult and give greater amounts of all types of XP when killed (Scouting, Combat, ect).
This would make Rangers wanted to lead a hunting party, as they would be able to find greater creatures (XP)for the party.
That would be a good one for bounty hunter as well.
I would love to see this implemented for PC bounties!!!
That in itself would make me change my career path to BH
It never fails that forums like these create stupid ideas after stupid ideas from the general player base, but for once, this sounds like a cool idea. Thus i must comment on it! ![]()
excellent idea, and would be great to see implemented.
after all we are creature harvesters it would make sense to have an ability to find a certain creature
