Thread: All these concerns boil down to one thing....

....with rangers restricted to animal-only abilities, they will be obsolete in a few months.

As the game progresses, encounters against humanoids will more and more become the focus of the game, with traps, conning, musksmell useless against them, rangers are doomed to obscurity. Kind of a shame, I've always played ranger-types in all RPGs I've tried, last night finished Master Scout and todayI logged in and couldn't think of somethingI wanted to do.

Of course the devs could fix this, but their track record shows that they only have a sense of urgency when a class is OVER-powered or an exploit has been discovered, itwill be a yearbefore they get aroundto improving abilities if they continue true to form.

Guess I could try creature-handler like everyone else, but sure seems to be a lot of them showing up.....and ranger is somehow..."me". If somone is privy to any inside info on them fixing this, please say so.

I agree with you for the most part, and despite that, I'm going to play a ranger anyway. It just fits into the role I'm playing. As far as traps working against CH pets, I'm not sure, but I'm about 99% positive that they don't. Either way, stay with it guys. We may just turn out like enchanters did in EQ. At first no one would play them, and they were underpowered / proper uses unknown. Now look at enchanters. High level groups can't function without one. Our day will come. Hold fast friends!

Ok, considering I can count the days this game has been out on my fingers and toes I think you need to relax and ease up just a bit.

I'm sure they'll get around to it but there are many more serious issues to be dealt with at the moment such as gameplay hindering bugs, server crashes etc. And OVERPOWERMENT is way more serious of a problem than UNDERPOWERMENT. Think about it. They don't want people blowing through the game in weeks.

I do agree that Ranger is in serious need of some extra special attention but be realistic here. The game hasn't even been out for a month yet and they have many other issues to deal with.

You are partaking in the launching phases of the biggest MMORPG ever made. Expect there to be bugs and balancing issues for atleast another half a year... and even then there will always be "tweaks" and "nerfs." It's the life of an online player.

"I can see your point to some extent, for once everyone is "maxxed", what point is there to our continual creature hunting if not for a source of income?"

These are not the words ofa true Trandoshan. Live for the hunt. Live for the exploration. Don't live for the credits... traitor.

Well the high level bases certainly could have some appeal in PvP. If you're in enemy territory, where are you going to safely get new medical supplies or heal? High tech field base sounds pretty promising on to this end.

Since you mentioned creature handlers, those traps of yours should be useful against enemy creature handler pets, no?

It seems that people aren't really that interested in bones, hides, and meat that much though - perhaps I am wrong here and this disappoints me a bit. I had thought these would be a bit more useful in the overall economy, but it seems that most people just need organics of _any_ kind and they are equipped to get them on their own. I kind of liked the idea of the hunter who sold the useful animal parts for good money.

As one of those former EQ enchanters who started as an Enchanter at release I cannot agree with you more. At release in March 1999, EQ enchanters didn't have their pets yet, very few if any illusions worked correctly, no one was high enough level to know what Celerity did exactly and people's biggest gripe of the class was that you couldn't enchant anything and it was the "defining" feature of the class(which was true). Needless to say, many wannabe enchanters left the class dismayed and became wizards or necros, two classes who's features worked at release. Months, even a year in some cases, later the class issues were indeed addressed and Enchanters became who they are today. And many wizards and necros saw what a cool class it had become and either restarted or just yearned for dreams unfulfilled.

My point of course is that Avocet is, IMHO, very close to the mark and I believe Rangers will one day come into their own. So yes, if you cannot wait please do become a YACH (yet another Creature Handler). Or, be patient, have faith and be rewarded in the future.

just an fyi, but Ranger traps do NOT work against pets.

I agree.. the ranger needs serious work. For now, I'm just going with CH, Scout and Rifleman.. that's much closer to what I think a ranger should be.
